Meme 6th of 6th of 6th

Recently I've seen this photo Meme on several of the blogs that I read regularly. So when Pamela threw it open to all her readers, curiosity got the better of me and I wanted to see what picture I would find.

Photo meme 6th of 6th of 6th

HERE ARE THE RULES:

1.Go to your Picture Folder on your computer or wherever you store your pictures.

2.Go to the 6th Folder, then pick the 6th picture in that folder.

3.Post that picture on your blog and the story that goes along with the picture.

4.Tag 6 other peoples that you know or don’t know to do the same thing and leave a comment on their blog or an e-mail letting them know you chose them.

Now following the rules this is what I found. I do believe I've shared this one before it was taken almost three years ago.

I'm glad it turned out to be some of my favourite people! There is no story but I took it while they were staying here during a summer visit.

I'm not tagging anyone but if you have a gap to fill it's a good one to do!

Meme = 5 Projects (+1) and an award

When Rantz came up with an idea for a new meme I did not volunteer to be tagged. I thought, smugly, that I would just sit back and enjoy reading what others were doing. Little did I realise that, Wendy who volunteered and immediately set about the task, would be tagging me!

This is setting yourself 5 Projects (+1) defining those projects and then tagging 5 people to do the same. (+1 being regular updates).

I know there are numerous things I should be doing but actually putting it in writing means I have to get them done, because the catch for this Meme is I will have to admit it in the updates and Rantz will be playing *big brother* by tracking. Now as far as I'm aware there is no set time for updating-phew!

I have been pondering my priorities for a few days and this is what I have decided:

1 Purchase the G.I. Diet Express- will try Amazon for this-then try and change my *bad* eating habits.

2 Start taking a daily walk again- haven't done this since I retired. Prior to this I walked just a mile around the block at 6am every morning before work. Now I have no intention of getting up that early but I do intend to walk daily. I suppose this one is really related to the first one.

3 Clear out and reorganise our large cellar room- I have already got Embee to agree that we start this task over the Easter holiday. He's even planning to take an extra couple of days off work.

4 Knit bed socks before next winter-don't laugh I haven't done any knitting for years but I do still have all my needles.

5 Put the family history into some format that can be passed on to my children and grand children-I think this might take me longer than I anticipate, but we'll see.

+1 Provide regular updates- this will be as and when!!

Now I have to tag five friends:

Little Wanderer who will be going on holiday to the sun in 5 weeks-she can contemplate her projects while she is away!

Steffi who is a brilliant dressmaker and always has lots of sewing projects up her sleeve!

Daffy who I feel sure will be able to come up with a few ideas to follow through, she sees some interesting birds in her garden and reads a lot of good books some of which get passed on to lucky me!

Marmite Toasty because she writes such funny posts and I'm sure, if she accepts the tag, she would think up some hilarious projects.

Little Miss Moi who now has Little Miss Sproglet, now there must be lots of projects she wants to do while getting through winter in Kiev/Kyiv!

A couple of days after getting the meme Wendy created this little award for me-now I wonder if she will still think my blog is interesting after she sees my project list!
I love having my own personal award so thanks a million Wendy x

I'd better log into Amazon now and see if I can order the BOOK!!!!!!!!

Meme Pink Sisterthood

Alison RDH mom tagged me for this meme ages ago and I haven't got around to doing it. I think mainly because I thought people wouldn't really appreciate being tagged over Christmas.

* One in eight women or 12.6% of all women will get breast cancer in her lifetime.
* Breast cancer risk increases with age and every woman is at risk.
* Every 13 minutes a woman dies of breast cancer.
* Seventy-seven percent of women with breast cancer are over 50.
* Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women between the ages of 15 and 54, and the second cause of cancer death in women 55 to 74.
* Risks for breast cancer include a family history, atypical hyperplasia, early menstruation (before age 12), late menopause (after age 55), current use or use in the last ten years of oral contraceptives, and daily consumption of alcohol.
* Early detection of breast cancer, through monthly breast self-exam and particularly yearly mammography after age 40, offers the best chance for survival."

Fun Christmas Meme

First of all I want to make a big apology for not having visited all the Fun Monday participants. I will try and visit as many of you as possible because I don't like missing out on the fun.

Secondly I had intended that this post would be about taking my mother out for lunch but we didn't get back until late afternoon and I've had no time to download the photos!

So instead I'm going to challenge you all to this meme that I got around Christmas last year when it was too late to post it and it has been sitting in my drafts ready for this year.
At the time I made a note that Lisa sent it...but which one!!! not a hundred percent sure so sorry for no link.

Christmas:

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? mainly wrapping paper with the occasional gift bag

2. Real or Fake Tree? No longer real for the past three years it has been fake; sad but mainly for economy and saving trees

3. When do you put up the tree? Only in the few days leading up to Christmas

4. When do you take the tree down? January 2nd

5. Do you like eggnog? I can take or leave it!

6. Favorite gift received as a child? I can remember getting several books one year and I still have everyone of them over 55 years later!

7. Do you have a nativity scene? No I don't -I think when the children were very young we had a home made one.

8. Favorite Christmas memory? Too many to mention but they all revolve around my children and grandchildren. Oh and maybe Christmas tea at my grannies house(early 50's)-she made the biggest trifle which was such a treat!

9. Person you consider the Queen or King of Christmas? Jesus naturally.

10. Worst Christmas gift you ever got? I've had a few but I remember padded coat hangers, oh and bath cubes~ I don't suppose they even make these nowadays.

11. Mail or email Christmas cards? Mail -however I know that I should be helping the environment so maybe I should rethink!!!

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? I'll go back to an early one 'White Christmas'

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? When I know what people would like~ we don't do surprises in our family! I have still not got everything and there' s not long to go!

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Don't tell but yes!

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Christmas lunch (turkey) with all the trimmings.

16. Clear lights or colored on the tree? I have both but prefer my red and gold sets.

17. Favorite Christmas song? Favourite Carol is Away in a Manger but Song Chris Rhea~ Driving Home for Christmas. When I was working I always heard this on the radio as I drove home on Christmas Eve.

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Stay at home and usually Beccy and family come here.

19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeers? Oh dear, no~ is that terrible of me, I do remember Rudolph!

20. Angel on the tree top or a star? Angel had it for years

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Christmas morning.

22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? Food shopping to find the shelves half empty!

23. What I love most about Christmas? Watching my grandchildren open their presents.

24. Tradition you've started with your family? When the girls were young we always played tennis but now it's a Family walk on Boxing .

If you are looking for a post topic give this a try!

Memes and an Award

I've been tagged by two of my plurk pals and because I have done both of these memes in the recent past I have decided to cheat and just put in a link to the post I did earlier this month.

So Jim and Rantz if you want to find out a bit more about me you will find lots of links to previous meme's here.

I was given this lovely award, a couple of days ago, by storyteller over at Small Reflections and I now have the Tina Turner song running through my brain. I will be adding this to my gallery.

I think it should be passed on to all the Fun Monday devotees because in my books they too 'are simply the best' for keeping this running for so long. It will be two years come 22nd January. This may not be a record but a wonderful group of bloggers have hosted and participated in the weekly challenge during this time.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend.

Meme-6 things about moi and Awards

I've been very remiss because I have been really slow in responding to being tagged back at the end of September (hides head in shame and I know you hate tardiness) over at Wakeupandsmellthecoffee. Now one of the reasons I've been a bit on the slow side is because I'm supposed to write six random things about myself and then tag six people. The problem is it's difficult to think of things I haven't told you before as you can see from the links below.

1 I am a frustrated photographer and I love looking at all the photos everyone publishes, in the hope I will pick up a few tips. I was given my first box brownie camera by an aunt back in the 1950's. It was a treasured possession and I still have the photos I took using it. I have only ever owned point and shoot cameras and I'm now on my second digital camera which does have quite a few settings that I haven't quite mastered yet! (I think I may even have mentioned this before)

2 This is really by way of a confession...when I retired I intended to try my hand at painting and my work colleagues bought me art material that I haven't even attempted to use yet. How long have I been retired I hear you ask...just over 2 years!

3 I have a travel bucket list and one of the places I have always wanted to visit is China and wait for it.......I am booked to go there on a trip next April!!

4 Retirement isn't all it's cracked up to be (did I just say that because when I was working I longed for more time to stop and smell the flowers). The first few weeks were wonderful I still got up early I spring cleaned the house and did lots of things which I never had time to do, like enjoy my coffee break and actually read the morning paper, going shopping when it was quiet instead of rushing round the supermarket either at the end of a busy day or on a Saturday and going swimming.
After a while the novelty wore off and I realised that people view you very differently once you have lost your professional status. It's very difficult to arrange times to meet up with colleagues, who were also friends, as they are still on the treadmill. It happens occasionally and when it does it's great catching up.

Now two years on I feel my life has no direction and everyday is the same. I know I'm pathetic and I could get involved in some charity work, and now my mother is a lot more frail I am available to care for her so that is a plus. Of course I have plenty of time to blog and plurk so maybe things aren't too bad after all! All this comes from someone who only ever wanted to be a homemaker and stay at home with her children.

5 So why did I venture back into the work place-it's simple really I got well and truly dumped by my first husband back in 1973 when my girls were very young, so I had no choice because we were left without any funds when he cleared the bank account. We managed and my girls were brilliant, they helped out, developing independence from an early age and I'm very proud of them. If I had my time over I might do a few things differently because I made mistakes but we have a very close relationship and I'm only sorry I don't get to see more of them.

6 The final random thing about me is that I hate smoking (my ex was a smoker and so was my father- my father died at 50 heart attack and my ex has been treated for bowel cancer) need I say more! When I met Embee he was also a smoker but he gave up pretty quickly!

I'm breaking the rules by not specifically tagging anyone, but if you fancy telling us more about yourself then you are tagged!

Meme...memories

Judy over at Judysteapot tagged me so that she could find out just how bad my memory is! She wants to know:

What I was doing when......

Princess Diana's death - 31 August 1997 weekend

I can't remember exactly what I was doing but I think it was a weekend because I do remember spending a lot of time in front of the TV on that day. I found it hard to believe at first, and it was so very sad for Princes William and Harry. I must also confess that one of my first thoughts were, *was this just a tragic accident*!

Margaret Thatcher's resignation - 22 November 1990

This is the day after Beccy's birthday but I have no idea what I was doing. I expect I was at work~probably doing an inspection of some day care establishment.

Attack on the twin towers - 11 September 2001

This was less than two weeks after I had started working for Ofsted. I was getting used to being based at home and I clearly remember my mother coming to tell me a plane had flown into the Twin Towers. My initial thought was that my mother hadn't got it right, then when I turned my TV on I though it *what an awful accident* but I soon realised my mistake. I think I spend the day running between my computer doing my work and the TV to catch any updates.

England's World Cup semi final v Germany - 4 July 1990

This was just after I had completed a 2 year secondment to Bristol University for CQSW (Social work). I have no interest in football so I doubt I even watched the match, but I probably saw the highlights.

President Kennedy's Assassination - 22 November 1963

Again I don't recall any detail because at the time I was quite young (19) and I was in the middle of training to become a SRN (state registered nurse). I don't recall whether I was on night or day duty. I can tell you it was pretty hard work back then. I had no real interest in politics but do recall feeling quite shocked that a public person could be assassinated that easily.

I'm not tagging anyone in particular but if you fancy doing this because you have a better memory than me then consider yourself tagged.

Meme

While I was away I got tagged by swampangel over @ A Florida Journal

So this is the task:

1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123
3. Find the 5th sentence
4. Post the next three sentences
5. Tag five people, and acknowledge who tagged you.

Soooo...from the book I have just started to read......

On page 123 of this book there are very few sentences so you are getting the whole page as it is written......

TWO QUESTIONS
Would the gates shut behind her?
or would they have the goodwill to let her black out?

As Liesel would discover, a good thief requires many things.
Stealth. Nerve. Speed.
More important than any of those things, however, was one final requirement.
Luck.

Actually.
Forgot the ten minutes.
The gates open now.

And what is the title of this book......
It's Marcus Zusak's The Book Thief... It has, as I'm sure many of you will know, had very good reviews. Beccy, who passed the book on to me, enjoyed it so I'm sure that I will. I only started it yesterday so am just getting into the story.......

Now I wonder who might like to do this meme!

I have seen it around for a while so I could be tagging someone who has already done it and I haven't checked!!

Beccy reads a lot and this could be an easy post for her but I don't know if she will take up the challenge

Julie @Abbilyeverafter
Daffy @Approaching 40
Alison @RDH Mom
John @ life in the pub
Elena jane who might do this under a pink umbrella~ you shouldn't have said you rarely get tagged!!

No pressure and only do it if you feel inclined.......I won't be crossing you off my Christmas card list if you ignore the challenge!

Meme~ all about me !

Tiggerlambgirl tagged me for this meme.......

The Rules:

1. The rules of the game get posted at the beginning of the post.
2. Each player answers the questions about themselves in their post.
3. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5-6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog.
4. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer.

Questions:

1. What was I doing ten years ago?

Oh my gosh, don't you know I'm getting old and hardly remember what happened 10 minutes ago let alone 10 years!! Damn why did I shred all my old diaries last month~ I might have found a clue!! Let me think in 1998, of course I was still working and had no idea that three years from then my working life would change! I'm sure I would have spent time in Ireland and Sam had not moved to the States so we would have also gone to London. I know that we were looking forward to a holiday in Cornwall with Beccy, Joules and grandchildren (only had two back then). My niece also got married in the October of that year. I've probably missed something significant!

2. What are five things on my list to do today?

a) laundry I always have laundry on a Saturday, (I wrote this in advance), I like get embee's work clothes and my swimming things from Friday afternoon, all washed....stupid really as I could leave it until next week, but not me... compulsive behaviour!!!

b) ironing is definitely on my list and I have a huge basketful to get through (done)

c) well it wasn't actually on my list but I did a bit of weeding.

d) start sorting clothes that I intend to take on holiday~ yes I have started trying on a few things to see if they still fit... no I'm not telling the world I've put on weight over the winter and I look gross!

e) renew my holiday insurance (no didn't get this done!)

3. Snacks I enjoy?

dried or fresh fruit....

however any kind of home made cake or biscuit would tempt me

embee sometimes brings me a bar of choc and crisps (choc yesterday!).... LOL you did notice I put the healthy option first!

4. Things I Would Do If I Were A Billionnaire?

Taking care of family and friends has always been a dream of mine. I would do a lot of charity work, possibly set up a foundation something involving children. I'd support cancer research, local hospitals and charities. Organise a bloggers party and fly everyone to somewhere warm and sunny (I know flying is not good for the environment but just once would be Ok)! and I certainly wouldn't forget the animals!
Most of all it would be worth giving away all one's wealth if you could achieve world peace and harmony between nations.

5. Three of my bad habits?

My worst habbit is that I no longer exercise enough and this is bad...bad...bad...

I spend too much time on the computer also very bad.....

It's a good job I can't afford it or I would drink too much champagne!...so for my third I will say I have a tendency to be skeptical and always look for the hidden agenda!! I think this might have something to do with my working background it didn't always pay to take things at face value in social work!

6. Five places I have lived?

I have lived in more than five different houses but only in three different places...I'm boring!

Nettlebed which I'm sure is not as I remember it as a young child.
Berkeley Looking through these photos brought back memories!
Bristol where I have actually spent most of my life, having moved here at the beginning of January 1962. I have actually lived in 6 different places in Bristol all within about a three mile radius.

7. Five jobs I've had?

I'm sure I've done a post on this before but I couldn't find it...

as a child..
worked in my parents shop and delivered newspapers
milk round and worked in greengrocers shop.

as an adult...
nurse
home care manager
social worker
ofsted inspector

8. How did you name your blog?

I'm just linking to this Fun Monday post where explaining how we named our blog was part of our task!

I don't think you have found out anything, from this post, that I haven't shared before... this is why I'm posting it on a Sunday when not many people come visiting.

I'm not passing this tag on to anyone so don't get worried, however if you are looking for a post consider yourself tagged!

Meme music

Barbara tagged me for this music meme.
The challenge is:
List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they’re listening to.

When I first read the challenge I thought that I had done this meme before but when I checked back it was a slightly different meme where you had to name 'three songs for ever'. Back then I chose Abba, Glen Miller and Eva Cassidy and I still go back to these old favourites time after time.

So this challenge is actually more difficult than I thought it would be because I listen to whatever is playing on the radio and I set a party mix programme on my itunes and the computer selects and plays from different musical genres.

One song that has been getting a lot of air time recently is Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis she is one of the UK's hot new stars after winning the X factor. All the video links are disabled but she is easy to find on You Tube.

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh have been running a TV competition to find a new Nancy and three Olivers for a new West end production of 'Oliver' due to open in December.
So I've been watching the show each week to see which girls the public is voting for. Last week Rachel was out at the semi-final stage but she performed a very good Sally Bowles in Cabaret.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Paul Pots was the winner of last years TV contest 'Britains got talent' and he has an amazing voice. This was his performance of Nessun Dorma that helped him get to the 2007 final.

The same contest is running again this year and I'm going to share some of the unknown talent competing to get to the final...
Escala~ very talented in my opinion..

This is Charlie Green who is 10 years old.

There are two other contestants I would like to have shown you, but I could not find videos. One a 12 year old girl with the most amazingly mature voice and a Scots lad (can't remember their names); both have got potential star quality, especially the girl. If you didn't know her age, you would think she was an adult just by the sound of her voice, which is very mature. She just might win the competition but we shall have to wait and see!
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Neil Diamond has been in the UK recently promoting this song...

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
For my last song I opened itunes and Norah Jones "Long way home' was playing. So I found a video of her singing it.

So there you have some of the music I have been listening to during the past week.
I have decided that I will not tag anyone but if there seven of you out there who fancy doing this meme...please consider yourself tagged!

Meme ......... I've been tagged to Show and Tell!

I have also been tagged for a music meme and was hoping to post the two together but that one is taking me a lot longer to put together so if you read this, Barbara, is will be completed, hopefully by Thursday.

SHOW and TELL........
Misslionheart has tagged me to show my coffee cup. As I have done this before it is an easy tag as I'm using the same photo I used for a Fun Monday post in May last year. This is just a few of the many coffee mugs we own all with a story. I have added a couple more since then one was part of a secret swap sent by BS. Coincidentally I actually wrote the post about it on this day last year. My latest coffee cup was given to me at Christmas by my friend in Canada.

I know I'm not playing the game as I'M NOT GOING TO TAG ANYONE. However, I HOPE THAT SOMEONE WILL DECIDE TO TAKE UP THIS CHALLENGE!

Monday Motivation Meme and Awards

Misslionheart realises that I need something to motivate me for the week ahead! She has worked out that I spend more time on the computer than I should and she is trying to wean me off with this Monday Motivation Meme! Now I cannot do this on Monday because I always participate in Fun Monday so I'm doing it a day early~ how's this for motivation!!

The rules of the game are simple enough…just list 5 things you wish to achieve during the week ahead and hopefully get motivated!

  • move all the remaining junk boxes from the house to storage area
  • clean house (after new roof insulation has been fitted on Weds) I think this will take me at least a week! you should see the mess just emptying the loft~ I hate to think what it will be like after the fitters have been here.
  • sort and put away winter clothes and bring out summer clothes~ am I being a bit premature~ probably!!
  • ring a couple of people that I have been meaning to get in touch with since the new year~ I know I'm very bad!
  • the final thing is to get the ironing done I have been adding to the basket for quite a while, telling myself it wasn't worth getting the ironing board out for a few items. This has now grown to an overflowing basket~oh and I really hate ironing! Done 29/4

Well that's my five all a bit mundane really~ which is exactly why I needed this motivational shove and I have misslionheart to thank for this!!

I know I should be passing it on but I'm not that motivated so lets say if anyone would like to motivate themselves you are tagged by moi!!
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Jackie at Mother's Pride has given this award to everyone. It's very cute don't you think! So thank you Jackie It has gone on display in my linked gallery. I consider all my visitors to be great blogging friends so I give this to everyone who drops by this post! Where would I be without good friends like you.

Alison gave me this lovely award and if you have not been following her adoption stories you should go over and read about her two journeys through this process. I guarantee you will be hooked! I love you all so I also give this to everyone especially my daughters Sam and Beccy.

Kila thank you very much for giving me 'The Good Chat Award'. I was originally given this Jackie I wondered if they are trying to tell me I talk too much~ no seriously guys I love it that blog friends like to visit me and chat I really look forward hearing everyone's news :)

Meme and Award

Cynthia over at 'Dahhhling I love you but give me Park Avenue'... has tagged me some of these I've done before as part of other memes so sorry if I repeat myself!!

4 Jobs I've Had:

Childminder~ I'm not sure if I ever mentioned I was once a childminder. In a way this was not a job I chose because I was rather begged to do it by a ward sister at the hospital where I had worked. She wanted to go back to work and as I was home my own daughter, who was a just under a year old, and I was very short of money, I agreed. There were no doubly buggies back then and it was hard work!

Mother~ this is the best job I have had. Although I had to work outside the home from the time my eldest daughter was 7 yrs old and youngest was 4 yrs old. Being a mother is the job I value most.

Daughter ~ have you ever thought how suddenly roles reverse I may no longer be caring for my children although sometimes I think that is not strictly true! I am however caring for my mother and this is almost like a nursing/domestic role as she relies heavily on me for many things.

You may not think being a wife to two husbands as a job. However when I married the first time I knew that I wanted to be at home for my children and create a warm homely environment for my husband to come home to (he was in the Merchant Navy). I was young and naive and although he was our world we were not his and we got dumped after seven years~ a very painful period in our lives and a sharp learning curve for me. I knew that I only had me to rely on and after 6 yrs back nursing I joined Social Services, did additional training and carved myself a career until I retired. I did marry again and have been looking after embee for nearly 30 yrs ~ he may not agree with this but he is not a new age man, however he does manage to do the garden and a few simple DIY jobs (he's out weeding the garden as I type and he fitted new security chains to two of our doors last week)!

4 Movies I've watched over and over:
I'm not that bothered about watching things over again but if they come on TV I do tend to watch...
Gone with the Wind
Grease
Dirty Dancing
Any of the classics such as Dickens, Bronte..oh, and romantic comedies who can forget 'When Harry met Sally'.

4 Places I Have Lived:
I have not moved very far in all my life:
I was born in Oxfordshire and when my father left the army after the war, my mother moved to Berkeley as in Glucestershire England not to be confused with the Calafornia one! We lived in a small cottage, then a shop when I was 8yrs, and at 16 my parents gave up their shop and bought a new house. At the age of 18yrs I left home and moved to Bristol where I lived in the Nurses Home for a couple of years. I have lived in and around Bristol ever since. Two flats, first house, then to my favourite house (a lovely four bed detached house), and from there we moved to current our Victorian house.

4 Shows I Watch:
These probably won't mean a lot to many of you!
Antiques Roadshow~ I love old things and seeing how much they are worth
Home and Away ( Aussie Soap)
Dancing on Ice (contest for celebrities who have a professional dance partner)
Primevil ( a sci fi not really that good but it fills a gap on a Saturday night)

4 Places I've Been: Can I cheat and give a few more!!!!!
Ireland
West Indies~several of the islands~ that trip was one good thing from my first marriage!
Las Vegas~ Grand Canyon
Portugal
Spain
San Francisco
Florida
New York
New England (lots of places here including Boston, Plymouth, Cape Cod just to name a few!)
Canada~ Toronto, Niagara

4 People Who E-mail Me Regularly:
Well firstly I get email comments from all my blogger friends which I really look forward to every day.
Embee sends me jokes from his work computer!!
My girls
Oh and all the spam which is usually filtered!

4 Favorite Things to Eat:
Being English I'm sure you would expect me to say:

Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding
Fish and Chips
Any pasta dish
Anything cooked by my daughters!!

4 Places I'd Rather Be:
I'd rather be visiting my children
Walking in the countryside
Living in a warm country near the sea where I could walk bare footed in soft clean sand~ heaven.
Sometimes I would even like to be back at work but I'm sure if I did go back I would then wish I was retired!

4 Things I Look Forward To This Year:
Holiday in Portugal with Beccy and family
Trips to Ireland to see Beccy and grandchildren.
A lovely warm summer without too much rain (well I can dream)
A year of peace and goodwill throughout the world!

********************************************************
Laurie has given me this yummy award which I have added to my gallery that can be accessed via my side bar. I love reading about the Laurie's dogs and seeing pictures that remind me of my dear departed Tamsie. So if you haven't met Laurie pop over and introduce yourself!

Now I always find Willowtree 'yummily funny' and I dread to think what he might do to this award but I'm sending it his way regardless! He'll probably ignore it as he's into other things!

Meme

Steffi who makes beautiful children's clothes tagged me for this meme:

1. Jobs ... where I worked...

Now do I give you my whole employment history (it's like doing a CV):

While I was still at school I worked first in my parents confectioners shop and delivered the newspapers. When they sold the shop I went to work for a local farmer on his milk round and when I had finished that job I went and worked in a local greengrocery shop (that was 5am -6pm lunch provided).
At the age of 18 I went to train as a nurse and qualified 3yrs later. I was a staff nurse for a year before leaving to start my most important job~ giving birth and looking after my two girls (back then there was no maternity leave). During this time I ran a home based pre-school for a couple of years.
Unfortunately (I was ditched for a new model!) so about 7 yrs later I found myself back working as a private nurse.
After 6 yrs I joined social Services, did some management training and managed a team of Home Care assistants and then a team of Home Aides. I then moved on to inspection of day care services (nurseries, pre-schools, childminders etc.) After a year I then went to university(in my 40's) to qualify as a Social Worker. I did some adoption assessments around this time. This was followed by a temporary one year position of Inspecting care homes for the elderly after which I returned to Day Care.
Back in 2001 OFSTED took over the role of inspecting all these children's services and I became an Ofsted Inspector. In the last year before I retired I managed a small team of inspectors. That takes care of my working life for 50 years~ and yes I did start working at a very young age!!

2.Movies...
This is difficult because I don't have a favourite but there are memorable films that I really like~ here are a few:

Gone with the Wind
African Queen
Casablanca
I love all the musicals (old and new)
Harry Potter
Lord of the Rings
All the films where Sam has her name in credits (proud mum) won't name them!

3. Places where I lived ...
This is easy as I have not lived in very many places. I was born in Oxfordshire, moved to Gloucestershire when I was three lived in a village (small town) in 3 different houses. Moved to Bristol at the age of 18 and been here ever since living first in the nurses accommodation and then in, two flats (apartments) and three houses.

4. Series...
I do watch a few soaps, such as Home and Away, The Bill, Eastenders (but not regularly). I am currently watching 'Sense and Sensibility' 3 part drama. I like documentaries. Some cooking programmes I dip in and out of, I like consumer programmes and holiday and home location/makeovers (I like to dream).

5. My favourite food ...
Anything I haven't cooked or anything cooked by my girls, they are both good cooks in their own way. I suppose I'm pretty traditional because roast beef, yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes with plenty of vegetables would be something I always enjoy.

6. My favourite websites ...
Blogger because it has given me so many friends.
Google because I can find out most information that I need, it's usually my first port of call!
Amazon because I can often find a bargain.

7. My favourite places ...
I would love to live near a beach that would be my idea of heaven, sun, sea, salt in the air. However I also love the country ( funny but I couldn't wait to leave when I was growing up~the grass is not always greener!) I love to be anywhere that my family are so I would also have to say Dublin and San Fransisco.

8. My favourite colour ...
There was a time when I would have said blue only. However, I now like all the ranges from deep pink through the purple range as well as blue. Currently I'm also into brown and beige colours.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~**~*~*~**~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~**~*~*

Hint # 3

Removing coffee and tea stains
An equal mixture of salt and white vinegar will clean coffee and tea stains from china cups. ( I will be trying this on my mother cups~ green tea really does stain!!)

Cleaning Kettles
If you get lime deposits in your kettle, gently boil 150ml (1/4pt) of white vinegar in the water and rinse well. (I'm definitely going to try this as I spend a fortune on buying scale removers~ we have very hard water so deposits build up very quickly).

There are so many cleaning tips but I'm going to leave it there for today. In future think I might do these hints on one day a week~ I don't want you to get bored and not return.

5 post meme... 7 things about me

I'm feeling rather guilty because I haven't done these meme's. I had intended to post them over the Christmas period but somehow other things got in the way. So today I sat myself down with a cup of Tim Horton's coffee that my Canadian friend brought me for Christmas and started with the first meme from Lisa (as in chaos)

The rules:
*
Post 5 links to 5 of your previously written posts. The posts have to relate to the 5 key words given below (family, friend, yourself, your love, anything you like).
*
Tag 5 other friends to do this meme. Try to tag at least 2 new acquaintances (if not, your current blog buddies will do) so that you get to know them each a little bit better.
*
Don’t forget to read the archived post and leave comments.

So far so good....I had a little think.....looked back through my past post and linked in the ones I had chosen. I was just about to look up the links for the people I was intending to tag and I must have hit a wrong button because everything had disappeared from the screen. Before you suggest 'undo' I had passed the command point for retrieving. So I had to search back in Lisa's archives to find the original post and here I am starting over. This was supposed to be a quick and easy post!!!!

OK..here we go let's hope it's second time lucky!!!!

Family - I do write about the family but decided that I would link to skype post because it is so nice to be able to see my children and grandchildren as well as just talk to them. I miss them so much, and as they live so far away I don't get to see them as often as I would like. Having said that I have seen them all within the last couple of months. If you need a choice then how about a reminder of Embee's 70th birthday bash

Friend- I have a friend called Tina, (some of you may remember we went to Canada back in the summer), whom I see most weeks when we go swimming. She has also won competitions for a couple of weeks in holiday appartments in Spain and this is the first trip we had to Costa del Sol

Yourself - I haven't written that much about me but remember this post about summer in the 50's

Your love - I think there was a Fun Monday post that would have fitted the bill for this but instead I will leave you with an embee post. I have no romance in my soul according to him so it has to be practical!

Anything you want - well how about one of my early posts which was about our recycling system

Ok, on to tagging 5 people. I know people have very mixed feelings about being tagged so I want to say ONLY do this if you feel inclined.
I’m tagging Beccy because although I know Lisa also tagged her I'm not sure she saw it as it was around the time her computer broke. Next I thought how about three sisters BS-The First of Six, SJ- And All The Jones Men, and recently joining them is LB-The Fifth of Six. Finally La Bellina Mammina.

*******************************************************************
7 Things about me

Alix also tagged me to tell 7 things you don't know about me! So difficult I'm dull and boring.......

1) I took my first trip to the States in 2001 just after 9/11 when I took my mother to visit Sam in San Francisco.

2) As a very young child we lived in a cottage with no indoor sanitation, we had water from a well we shared with a neighbour and my mother cooked on an oil stove and had oil lamps. A lot has changed in 60 years!!

3) I'm quite shy and not really very confident with people I don't know.

4) I think I'm allergic to oysters as the only time I ever tried them I was violently ill. This was when I was in Portugal with Sam in 2000.

5) There were two things I desperately wanted to do as a child, one was to have a horse, the other was to have ballet lessons. My parents could not afford a horse or even lessons and they said 'I was too fat' to be a dancer... yes that's the way it was back then. I managed have riding lessons in my early 30's and after a bit of encouragement (no confidence) Embee persuaded me to take ballroom and Latin dance lessons.

6) As a teenager and into my twenties I was an avid reader of historical romance novels and I always dreamed of writing a best seller!

7) I managed to get my name on the ladies double tennis trophy 17 times between 1977 and 2000 but only 9 times between 1978 and 2000 on the ladies singles trophy. The last one was at the age of 56. The mixed double was seven times between 1976 and 1994. Sadly I have not played any serious tennis since about 2004 when I was having hip problems. I keep wondering whether to have another try.
Well that's me done.

The "rules" are:

1) Link to the person who tagged you.
First word of this post...

2) Post the rules on your blog.

3) Share 7 facts about yourself.

4) Tag 7 random people and include links to their blogs. With no obligation to accept the tag I hope these guys will let us in on a few secrets!!!
Devon-Loves Rain
Gawilli- Back in the Day
Susan-A Slice of LIfe
Katie-Kitten's Homeschool
John
Grannymar
Misslionheart- A place for everything
5) Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Meme

Amy over at A family Story tagged me for this meme:

"You must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of your middle name. If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had. When you are tagged you need to write your own blog-post containing your own middle name game facts. At the end of your blog-post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog."

So here goes (I'm glad it's not my first name which is way too long).

M= MELODRAMATIC- MOUNTAINS OUT OF MOLEHILLS- surely that's not me! well Embee says 'I am and I do' but I don't see things the same way as he does. I might get a bit OTT when I find he has left the cellar light on overnight or the door unlocked or the fridge door is not properly closed (that could be my mother), but I think I'm justified.

A =ABSTEMIOUS- well I don't drink a lot. I am an Adoring grandma and I'm emmensly proud of my three grand children's Achievements. I did wonder if I'm Accomplished as I cook a little, compute a little and garden a little but that's for others to judge!!

R=RELIABLE-I like to think that I'm a good supportive friend who does not let people down. If I say I will do something you can consider it done even if it takes a while like memes!

Y = YEARNING I have a really strong yearning to travel and see a lot more of the world before I get too old and 'the insurance gets too high'! Of course now I have all the time in the world I have a very limited income. So who wants to offer me accommodation ?(only joking). I am going to San Fransico for thanks giving so I have that to look forward to. Oh and although the body and mind might be aging I'm still Young at heart.

I decided to bend the rules a bit mainly because everything I was saying Embee was not exactly disagreeing but was putting in his two penneth so I decided to give you my take on his middle name (am I being M!?!?):

P = he would say he's Poetic I would say Pompus and Pedantic

E= I would say Egotistical (sometimes)

T= Teetotal he is not and he can't disagree with that!

E= Eating- does he live to eat ot eat to live I will leave you to ponder this one!!

R= he would say he likes ROQUEFORT cheese, he is Really quite good at making up Riddles and Rhymes (I might agree if he were to bribe me with a bar of choc or a new bathing costume). I would say he is Reticent because he is often Reluctant to discuss things when I want to!

I know lots of people don't like meme so I will be won't be offended if you don't play along but just for fun I have tagged bloggers who begin with the letters of my name.

M mommoto3cubs Kila
A a day in the life of..Emma
R RobinPensieve
Y Yaxlick The World of

PS I haven't checked if any of you have already been tagged for this.

Meme

I have seen on several blogs that I regularly read and decided to give it a go I must be mad!!

1.WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? I decided to go straight to the horses mouth for the answer to this one. My mother says no, she was apparently reading a book at the time and saw the name and likes it as at the time it was not a common name. Coincidentally I chose Sam's name in a similar fashion, I'd heard it the film High Society when I believe Bing Crosby sang a song and again it was unusual. Around the time Sam was born the TV series about the witch Samantha was running so everyone assumed she was named after a witch (her birthday is a creepy date that I'll leave it to your imagination). Back to my name; I was given a mug which says:
"Even when it's arocky road you never try to shrug off your load. Your name, it is said means "Christ's Bearer". Which explains why you're such a good little sharer!" So now you know!!!!

I was taken home to my granny's house which was right opposite the hospital and I could not understand why everyone was eating cake and I wasn't being given any (kids were meant to be seen and not heard in those days and no explanations) or more importantly no ice cream to soothe the throat!!)

Meme -

Sam Chattering On tagged me for this meme

The rules are simple. There are 9 questions (3², each of which has 3 answers, to give a total of 27, or 3³. The whole point is that the questions are somewhere between eclectic, banal and downright bizarre, so that you can answer completely truthfully without actually giving much away. Just put down the first three answers that come to mind if you can’t work out the “most appropriate” three.

Objects Within One Metre Of You

1. Embee sitting at the other computer, blocking my light and trying to read me jokes from Merle's blog while I'm trying to concentrate on this!!
2. My camera just been downloading some pictures and my remote control for the computer (good job I had this to hand as I was able to get a photo for tomorrow's post from my seat).
3. Coffee mug (My secret surprise swap present)

First Names of People You Sat Next To At School

1. Judy and I lost touch when we left secondary school- she went to train as a nanny and her mother and mine were friends so I heard news for a few years. I was hoping she would come to a school reunion we had a fews years back but no one had heard anything of her. I tried Friends United but no luck.
2. Veronica was one of my friends at secondary school, she now lives in The Wirral and although I haven't seen her since the school reunion we write at Christmas and have recently started sending the odd email to catch up.
3. Avril was another friend (we were very nearly expelled but I'd better not go into detail this was one of my supporting a friend and I got into trouble for it), she helped organise the school reunion. I was her bridesmaid and we now only exchange news at Christmas. About four years ago I had to go to the area where she lived and I called at the house. Her husband entertained me until she got home for lunch. Although we only had a short time it was great to catch up.

Programmes You Won’t Watch (I need more than three for this one!!)

1. Sports programmes that show- FOOTBALL, FOOTBALL, FOOTBALL and rugby and cricket, boxing, wrestling I'm sure I could go on and on.......
2. Big Brother- I watched a few of the early ones just to see what all the fuss was about- revolting programme in my humble opinion.
3. Cartoons in general.

Favourite Trivial Pursuit Categories (it's so long since I played I couldn't remember the categories)

1. Entertainment
2. History
3. Art & Literature

Superpowers You’d Like To Have

1. Super sight - So I could see what everyone is doing, fly on the wall stuff !!!! (well maybe not everywhere!!)
2. Super healing- I could do so much good in the world and relief all the suffering.
3. Super time travel- so I could get to see my children and grandchildren more often and no more waiting at airports and getting through customs so much wasted time!!

Newspapers, Magazines or Periodicals Read Regularly

1. Woman's Weekly - My gran used to have this magazine and I've carried on with it. I used to use a lot of the knitting, sewing patterns and recipes when my girls were young. The magazine has changed over the years.
2. People's Friend- embee buys these two for me every week
3. Nursery World- I still get this sent me from when I worked so hope it continues I like to keep abreast of children's education.

Songs You Dislike (difficult one I'll go for artists)

1. Punk stuff like Sex Pistols
2. Eminem
3. Rolling Stones I'll get shot for saying I'm not a huge fan of some of their recodings.

Blog Posts of Your Own That You’d Recommend (I would always recommend Beccy's and Sam's but I will choose others- this will be very difficult because I like so many for a lot of different reasons) I think that my readers will already know these blogs:
1. A Dingo's got my barbie a little bit of everything- well written, amusing, plenty of photos and videos (he's a soft touch for taking in cats and dogs)
2. The Dust Will Wait plenty of variety and some lovely photos.
3. enidd the third person Singular enidd has just moved to San Fransisco and this will give her a lot of new material to keep us amused- always a good read. I am going to squeeze in two more blogs (little miss moi, sally writes. They are always a good read and Little Miss Moi has been off air for 10 days and I just wanted everyone to know she is back.

I am not going to tag anyone in particular but feel free to take the challenge if you get stuck for inspiration.
