A daily delve into my life......

Imagine my surprise, last week, when I got a telephone call from an old schoolfriend. Her husband still has a lot of relatives living in the area and they were planning an overnight visit on their way to Devon. They wanted to call in and see me on route.
.....I think you might be able to pick us out.....if you compare it to the photo, below, taken this morning.
In many ways today has been rather depressing. I got up early and did a few things for my mother and then made a lemon cake. I had been invited to meet up with some of my ex-work colleagues (who are also friends) for a sort of American lunch, and the cake was my contribution.
Yesterday I was invited to a small social gathering at my friend Anna's. There were only eight of us but Anna is a wonderful hostess. She is one of those maddening people who does everything with ease. Her home is always perfect, she is an excellent cook and she never has a hair out of place. When we go swimming, my other friend, Tina, and I go quite casually dressed and we don't worry about our hair. Anna always dries and styles her hair, while we just run a comb ours through and let it dry.

There was the time after their exams when they spent a week in a caravan, I worried myself sick but they had a great time and probably had no idea how worried we were back home.
I remember the time they drove to Devon in Sam's first car a Morris Minor to go camping (1984). I don't think I slept a wink thinking of all the dangers that could befall two young girls alone and camping.

I should just add Tamsie is no longer with us but I still miss her even after 14 years.Labels: friends, Fun Monday
