Flowers from a Friend....
A friend popped in for coffee today and brought me these pretty flowers to brighten up my day. She is going off to India for three weeks on Thursday. Her itinerary includes a safari and a visit to the Taj Mahal so I can't wait to see all the photos when she gets back. In the mean time I'm going to help keep the greenhouse plants watered.
ALSO CAN ANYONE NAME THE FLOWER BELOW? Embee cannot remember what it is called! The blooms look very much like a tulip.
Postscript~ thanks to House of Purple Worms I now know that this flower is an Imperial Crown Lily.

Beautiful flowers from your friend.
I don't know the name of the "mystery" flower. It's very pretty.

Hi, Chris, That is a kind of lily and the flowers of this particular species come in reddish orange or yellow - it is commonly called Crown Imperial, Kaiser's Crown or Fritillaria Imperialis. There are several other kinds of fritillaria - this kind is supposedly a deterent to gophers because it has a peculiar odor. They don't like to be moved and the bulbs do not keep well. I have one but it never blooms and seems to die back and turn yellow very early in the season. That is about all I know.

What a thoughtful friend! Both of you...lol.
gorgeous flowers....what a nice friend.
How cheerful and spring-y!
I hope they last a long time!
Lucky you with those beautiful flowers, I have a mountain of chocolate here!
tafkap is correct I remember now. I seem to remember in the instructions it said plant it on it's side because water can get into a hollow at the top of the bulb. It also said it may not flower the first year. I will try to get chrisb to publish some photographs of the garden when Beccy got married about twelve years ago, cost a fortune but did look nice. Thanks to everyone on their kind wishes on our anniversary.
Wendy thank you for all the info I will go and look it up now I have a name. I guess we were lucky to have it flowering the first year it was planted!
What beautiful flowers! Flowers are one of my FAVORITE blessings from God.
