Look what I won!

I had a lovely surprise today when a parcel arrived from Karisma. You can see below that it was a T-shirt and I must confess I'd forgotten I'd won it in a draw for commenting on one of Karisma's posts.

I will be taking it to Dublin when I go in a couple of weeks time and I'm sure it will fit one of my grandsons. If necessary I'll have to toss a coin!

So thank you very much Karisma it will be going to a good home x

Witty Wednesday # 69 The prize and Divorced Barbie!

Thank you Daffy these made me laugh!

The Prize

John O'Reilly hoisted his beer and said, 'Here's to spending the rest of me life, between the legs of me wife!'.

That won him the top prize at the pub for the best toast of the night!

He went home and told his wife, Mary, 'I won the prize for the Best toast of the night.'

She said, 'Aye, did ye now. And what was your toast?'

John said, 'Here's to spending the rest of me life, sitting in church beside me wife.'

'Oh, that is very nice indeed, John!' Mary said.

The next day, Mary ran into one of John's drinking buddies on the street corner. The man chuckled leeringly and said, 'John won the prize the other night at the pub with a toast about you, Mary.'

She said, 'Aye, he told me, and I was a bit surprised myself. You know, he's only been there twice in the last four years. Once he fell asleep, and the other time I had to pull him by the ears to make him come.'

The Divorced Barbie Doll

One day a father is on his way home and suddenly remembers that it's his daughter's birthday.

He pulls over to a Toy Shop and asks the sales person, 'How much for one of those Barbie's in the display window?'

The salesperson answers, 'Which one do you mean, Sir?

We have: Work Out Barbie for $19.95, Shopping Barbie for $19.95, Beach Barbie for $19.95, Disco Barbie for $19.95, Ballerina Barbie for $19.95, Astronaut Barbie for $19.95, Skater Barbie for $19.95, and Divorced Barbie for $265.95'.

The amazed father asks: 'It 's what?! Why is the Divorced Barbie $265.95 and the others only $19.95?'

The annoyed salesperson rolls her eyes, sighs, and answers: 'Sir..., Divorced Barbie comes with: Ken's Car, Ken's House, Ken's Boat, Ken's Furniture, Ken's Computer, one of Ken's Friends, and a key chain made with Ken's balls

If I've made you laugh I will be happy!

Who's a lucky girl..........

memememe.... I rarely get nice surprises in the post, its usually junk mail or bills so when this arrived yesterday I knew just what it was.... A while back Karisma offered a little prize for writing a poem. I entered tongue in cheek because poetry is not one of my strong points. So imagine my surprise when I was chosen by her family as the runner up! I now know how to speak Aussie!!!!
Thank you Karisma, this is a lot of fun and will be added to my collection :)

Now the other thing I got this week is this.....
from my buddy Alison..... who is very good at sharing the love with me as I have been lucky enough to get five awards from her. This makes me feel very special and I do hope we get to meet up one day so that I can thank her in person! This has already gone into my gallery.

Now I'm passing it on to:

Karisma who made my day yesterday :)

Asha who has been a constant friend from the time I started blogging.

Tiggerlambgirl whom I met recently and whose company I hope to enjoy again :)

Marmite Toasty to make you smile :)

Daffy because I see a (younger) kindred spirit!

Misslionheart who has just completed the Flora Marathon.

John who groans at my jokes and says he is going to find me some good ones!!!

Beccy who also completed the Flora Marathon on Monday.

Sam this is really for Friday xx

Surprize! !

There are some advantages to living in an old house as you might be lucky enough to win a prize! Remember when Katie (Kitten's Homeschool) was hosting Fun Monday and she promised a little Christmas treat for whoever had the oldest house and whose pile of bricks stones has actually been around since Queen Victoria was on the throne!!

Yes it was mine! so when the postman called today with a parcel for me I had a sneaking suspicion it might be from Katie. I couldn't wait to open the package~ and what do I find....this sweet little jar of spiced tea with instructions.
The jar is so pretty (you can't see all the embossed fruit in my photos) and it has a screw top metal lid with a picture of a basket of fruit. When I opened the jar the blend of spices was very aromatic and I couldn't wait to try it. I quickly took a few pictures and then offered my mother a cup and made one for myself. I don't drink ordinary tea but I quite like fruit tea and I certainly liked this spiced tea, although is was a little on the sweet side.
My mother was immediately smitten, she wondered if we could buy it here, so I will be checking down the tea aisle when I next shop. In the mean time I've promised my mother she can help herself as long as she saves a few cups for me!
Katie as you can see your spiced tea has been very well received so thank you very much for the treat.

Final Post card from San Francisco

I cannot believe that I will be leaving here later today. The week has sped by and Sam and Fred have looked after me so well. I have been wined and dined, here and there and everywhere, and I also met a bunch of very special bloggers. Last night we went to a charity reception for San Francisco Chefs. They are supporting St Jude's Children's Hospital Research. We left before the end, so can you imagine how delighted we were when Sam got a phone call later to say that she had won not one but two raffle prizes (I put my ticket in Sam's name). I'm gutted that I will not be able to go with her to sample the tasting menu at Aqua. However I'm very pleased that Sam will be able to take one of her friends. I'll just have to make sure I get to dine there on my next trip! If you are wondering why Fred won't be going, it's because he's not into fish which is the particular specialty of this restaurant.

See you all when I get back to Bristol.

A package from the outback!

A few weeks ago this guy ran a competition (Ididlookfortheactuallinkbutobviouslynotintherightplace) - that's a clue to which post it was! Anyway I was lucky enough to win one of his tacky coveted prizes (no not that one btw I have voted this month!). Yesterday a package arrived with all these goodies.... Now I have somewhere to stand my coffee cup and there will no longer be brown circles on every notepad in sight! Also I have four little mascots sitting on the computer to remind me 'I ♥Australia'!

So thank you Willowtree I'm glad you took pity on me and let me win... sometime it pays to comment early!!

Pigeon Post

I won a prize from John and I'm not sure if it was beccy's comment........

"That's a shame the smoked ferret nostrils sound quite tempting!"

that prompted Jonhn to send us this little delicacy!!
What you don't know !!
Oh some of you have worked it out!!
Yes that's right it is a smoked pigeon breast. I knew what to expect so I was anxiously awaiting the arrival and wondering what it would taste like. The last time I had been close to a cooked pigeon was when my brother was a teenager and he had potted one with his air rifle. He had wanted my mother to cook it but when she refused and he took it to my granny who naturally obliged!

I was full of trepidation as I opened the package and a smoked gamey whiff hit my olfactory organ. I then promtly did the bloggy thing and took a photo. We tried it that evening, when Embee got in from work and did we like it...........

Sorry John... Not a lot

It was very chewy (outside a bit rubbery) and Embee commented the taste was a bit liked smoked salmon and I could see what he meant. If I ever see it on a menu I would not be curious enough to order.

John THANK YOU I really appreciate the thought, it was great fun, but next time I win one of your prizes I'll have something other than smoked pigeon!!
