I could have had pigeon pie!!

On Sunday as I was sitting here at the computer I suddenly heard a loud thud which sounded like something hitting the window in my mother's sitting room. I knew immediately what it was and my mother confirmed that she had seen a few feathers fluttering and there was a mark on the window. I went outside but couldn't see any evidence of the culprit!
However, when Embee went out later to do some weeding he found this poor little pigeon stone cold~ which was sort of sad. Why when they can be a nuisance~ well my mother said it's mate was flying around looking for it for the rest of the day!!

Oh, and I was only joking about the pie it didn't even enter my head!! Remember the time I tried this, and the time I had a visitor!! So although there are plenty of recipes to be found I won't be making a pigeon pie!!

POSTSCRIPT~ WELL NOW I KNOW THIS IS ACTUALLY A DOVE NOT A PIGEON (see how dumb I am!) I'M RATHER GLAD I DIDN'T TRY TURNING IT INTO A PIE!! Thanks for putting me right folks.

Pigeon Post

I won a prize from John and I'm not sure if it was beccy's comment........

"That's a shame the smoked ferret nostrils sound quite tempting!"

that prompted Jonhn to send us this little delicacy!!
What you don't know !!
Oh some of you have worked it out!!
Yes that's right it is a smoked pigeon breast. I knew what to expect so I was anxiously awaiting the arrival and wondering what it would taste like. The last time I had been close to a cooked pigeon was when my brother was a teenager and he had potted one with his air rifle. He had wanted my mother to cook it but when she refused and he took it to my granny who naturally obliged!

I was full of trepidation as I opened the package and a smoked gamey whiff hit my olfactory organ. I then promtly did the bloggy thing and took a photo. We tried it that evening, when Embee got in from work and did we like it...........

Sorry John... Not a lot

It was very chewy (outside a bit rubbery) and Embee commented the taste was a bit liked smoked salmon and I could see what he meant. If I ever see it on a menu I would not be curious enough to order.

John THANK YOU I really appreciate the thought, it was great fun, but next time I win one of your prizes I'll have something other than smoked pigeon!!

A Pidgeon came calling!

EmBee and I were out in the yard on Sunday afternoon, don't faint were were actually clearing the one of the cellars (he took several car loads to the tip- I should have taken a photo), and suddenly this pigeon landed in the yard. It had a look in the garage and then came and perched on some boxes. As you will see it was not afraid and it was ringed so obviously used to people. I rushed to get my camera and it posed for some photos, then when I went into the kitchen to make a drink it decided to follow me. It took a walk around my breakfast room, the last photo was taken under the table before it went back outside (I was a bit worried it might leave me a little present!!). I threw out some food but it was not interested and after a few more minutes it flew off. I hope it found it's way home safely!!

PS my darling daughter (beccy) insists I should have said 'it had better not crap on my carpet' but I would never offend my readers with this type of language !!!!!
