One gull less!!

I don't know what brought this gull down but yesterday I found it in my back yard. I think it had a broken wing. But it was already dead when I found it. Must have happened quite quickly because I was out there putting out rubbish and short time later I happened to look out of the window and saw it lying on the ground. I decided not to leave it for the foxes!!!  Poor thing

Autumn is here!

After my little drama earlier in the week (those of you who follow me on Facebook will know I've had some Victorian flower pots thieved from my back yard!) For those who don't know- the pots were taken over a 6 foot high wall and they are not exactly the lightest of things. I remember blogging about these back in 2007 but can't seem to be able to link to that post but I can show the picture
Anyway this is not really what I wanted to talk about today. Here in my part of the UK it is a beautiful sunny autumn day, and I was in the garden hanging out the washing when I suddenly realised I was being watched from a few feet away!
I thought it would fly off but no he (or she) was very bold and just sat on the fence staring at me until it saw a magpie and away it went into my neighbour's garden.

It was too nice to go indoors so I took a stroll around my very small yard. We grew a few tomato plants in a small plastic green house and one branch got broken off from one of the plants so Embee decided to put it in a pot outside and believe it or not it did grow. Now clearly the tomatoes are not going to ripen but the water from last nights storm was still in evidence on the tomatoes and I thought it might make an interesting picture!
You might need to click for better view!
The final thing which really caught my eye was the wonderful rich red colour of the leaves on one of my Blueberry bushes. I am sure the leaves are much redder than previous years, but that could just be my imagination.

It reminded me of my trip to New England back in the fall of  2006 and this made me come and re-visit some of my old blog post.

I then thought 'why not share your thoughts' so that's exactly what I'm doing.  Not that I think many people read blogs these days-I too am guilty of only dipping in and out from time to time. It was actually 6 years ago that I first started my blog after retiring .........I seemed to have much more to say back then!!!!

I can see you!!!!

Yesterday I heard a dull thud on the window and wondered if a bird was the culprit. There sitting on the fence was one of the doves that seem to inhabit my garden. Not sure if it was dazed or just bold but it didn't move as I took photos albeit from inside the house. Normally they depart rapidly if there is any any movement. Wonder where it's partner was hiding as they are usually together!!!!!

Woodpigeon and an Award

I think I've become a bit obsessed with trying to get a decent bird photo. This morning, when I was making my breakfast, I saw this Woodpigeon in our yard it stayed a round for a long time and took up this position on the seat. I opened the kitchen door but thought I would frighten it away if I tried to get closer. It looks like it is inspecting my car!My friend Kitten gave me this delightful little award that she made herself.
It is so bright and cheerful and that's what blog friends do- brighten up your day. Thank you so much, Kitten, I will be adding this to my special gallery. I won't presume, but I pass this on to anyone who feels I brighten their day.

Birds and Brother

When I was cleaning out one of my kitchen cupboards at the weekend. I can across some mixed seeds that were a little lot out of date so I decided to try and temp the birds so that I could take some photos. It remained untouched for two days and then suddenly yesterday when I was out all the seeds were eaten and although I did see a Magpie swoop down today I still haven't managed to take a photo of any birds and I so wanted to practise. I'll have to think of another plan.

Birthday Boy
Today is my brother's birthday so just wanted to say Happy Birthday to him.

Fun Monday # 79 What will it be....a question or a bird!

We have another great hostess this week; Lisa as you will know is a brilliant photographer, so I'm not at all surprised she gave us a photographic option this week.
So the choices are:

What is one thing you would like to ask your readers? Come up with a question to pose to your visitors and throw it out there on Monday. As we’re all visiting each other’s Fun Monday posts we should answer the various questions we come across.
OR
Show&Tell me about a bird, I’m easily made happy.

Now this is Fun Monday isn't it so I put this question to you.....

If it takes a hen and a half, a day and a half to lay an egg and a half, how long would it take a blue eyed Mongolian to sandpaper an elephant down to a whippet?
I wonder who will have an inspired answer!

I can never get the birds to stay still long enough for me to take a picture well there was this one....

but I will leave you with a picture of a magnificent bird who will never fly again...
....I'm sure you can all name this bird!

Pop over to Lisa's to find out who is posing a question or posting a photo, or both if like me they bent the rules!
