Motivation.......

............ is making someone happy.

My daughter's really enjoy my loganberry jam so as I had frozen my crop this year and still had some in the freezer from last year I decided that if I thawed them I would have to get myself in jam making mode!

When I combined all the fruit it actually wasn't that much 4lbs 6oz but I knew this would make a few jars. One of the reasons they like this jam is because I do not use the recommended amount of sugar (always put less-guess work) so the jam is slightly tart. I don't know about you but I really do not like the overly-sweet shop bought jam.

mashing the loganberries
One thing I don't like is the messy hob where the boiling jam splatters!
End result
Well it only made seven pots but I'm sure that will make my girls happy!!!

Loganberry Jam

Today I picked a couple of pounds of loganberries (from our garden) and on the spur of the moment decided to make some jam. Where does one go to get a recipe...why google of course and I was spoiled for choice. They were all very similar so I opted for one that came from 'Old Australian Food Recipes' mainly because it was so simple.

Loganberry Jam:

Ingredients:

1 1b. loganberries,
1 1b. sugar (I used a few ounces less sugar as I didn't want it too sweet)

Method:
Pick berries over, removing any stalks, weigh, then wash very gently, place in preserving pan, crushing a few to draw sufficient juice before cooking, bring slowly to boil and cook 10 to 15 minutes, add sugar, boil rapidly till a little will set when tested on a saucer, pour into hot jars and seal.

I did actually over cook it because I was chatting to my daughter on the phone but it still tasted just fine to me.

Blueberries = Home grown fruit is the best!

I came back from holiday to find that my blueberries were ripe. Unfortunately the wind had blown a lot of the fruit off. I only have four bushes and this is the most fruit they have ever produced, so I was really delighted.

Final haul weighed almost a pound. This may not seem many but when you think how much they cost here in the UK for about 4oz, I am more than pleased. Also they taste so much nicer when you have grown them yourself!
We also had a small crop of loganberries.
