Happiness is....

having a new handbag (purse). My mother has been pestering lamenting
for several weeks that she needs a new handbag. She managed to get the lining caught in the zip of her winter bag and she cut it open (I didn't know anything about it until the deed was done as I might have been able to fix it). Naturally it was damaged goods and so it had to be thrown away. Originally the bag came from a charity shop so it didn't cost a lot and my mother was convinced that she would get another in the same way, but having scoured all the local charity shops we had no luck.
So today I had to go and sort out some carpeting at our local Mall and decided I would take a look at some of the stores to see if I could find a suitable bag. Eventually I came up with this one, which meets all her criteria...easy zip, not many compartments so easy to find things, big enough to carry a snack (she often likes to take a biscuit or dried fruit out with her, it saves buying a pudding when she has her lunch out on a Wednesday!). (The colours are not really showing that well, it's basically brown with some bronze)
When I got it home I could see by her initial reaction that she wasn't sure, but within half an hour, with a little subtle persuasion (I told her I would like it for me, and I shortened the handle by one notch) she now thinks it is just right, and that I know exactly what she likes! Phew thank goodness for that.... I even told her she could have it for an early birthday present but she had to realize she wouldn't be getting anything else come the day (her birthday isn't until December), her response was "that's a pity". In the past she has often wanted early presents and then I managed to find something else on the day. However I'm retired now so I have to budget a lot more carefully but you never know I might just find a little surprise as I expect she will have forgotten the bag was her present by then!!

I like bags but seldom carry one now. I prefer a pocket.

Thanks for the inspiration, I think I have enough for a blog post. :)

cute bag!

I understand the budget.

my granny once gave me an early b-day present- a beautiful coat to wear to the ballet, as I didn't have a nice one. when my birthday had come she gave me a cake and a homemade tape of the sound of music- my fave movie. I was about 10 years old, and I still remember this as one of my fondest birthdays

I love new purses. My daughter has just gotten bit by the bug but, like you, she calls them handbags. Makes me smile every time I hear the word. Great post!

When I was a kid and we were out shopping I just didn't get why my mum liked handbags so much. She would aways stop in the handbag department and salivate over the handbags whilst I'd be tigging on the hem of her coat begging her to get a move on from this most boring of shopping departments. I stayed anti-bag until about 5 years ago, when I suddenly delveoped a terrible hand bag fetish and I can't stop buying them since. I just got the best one ever a while back. I think mum'll like it, thought its not as good as the best bag ever which she bought me a few years ago when my handbag fetish began.

Thank you everyone my mother loved hearing about your comments (she always asks if I do a post about her).
The bag is going to be a big hit she keeps admiring it and will be using it for the first time today when she goes out to lunch with her friend.

Sam is that your Anya Hindmarsh bag? I was only wondering the other day if you still used it.

beccy you know me so well but you never know I might be tough this year!

pamela I see what you mean about blue, it must have been the light although I did take the picture close to a window for natural light.

my4kids it's a shame it looks blue. Knowing me the camera probably isn't set correctly and I'm useless at things like that.
