A visit to the country
Yesterday we spend a very pleasant day with my brother and his wife. We were able to sit in their lovely garden and enjoy the sunshine. My s-i-l cooked a superb lunch complete with freshly picked broccoli grown by my brother. My niece and her daughters arrived in time to join us for dessert and then we walked across the field at the back of their house to feed a neighbour's goat.
This is Jasmine she is the smallest of triplets and the one who is being hand reared. Mummy goat and her siblings remained close by watching. Jasmine was ready for for a good guzzle as you can see.
On my way back I picked a lot of dandelions for my tortoises (Tom and Tog) and they quickly tucked in as this is one of their favourite foods. We actually have three tortoises but the other one (Topsy) is at the vets being treated for mouth rot which seems to be a recurring problem for her after hibernation.
PS I actually got to drive our new car home so that Embee could have a drink or two so he was a happy chappy!!

Dear chrisb. Baby goats are my favourite animals - little, and such soft fur! Very cute. Then they get big and like to head butt things... Glad you had a fun day!
little miss moi the mummy goat kept a watchful eye on us and although we didn't have any problem she is apparently becoming quite protective. I couldn't get any good photos but there were also about ten baby pigs.
When did the tortoises come out of hibernation? Did I miss a blog. I hope Topsy is well and home again soon.
I hope Uncle David remembers he's promised me a bbq!
beccy I didn't actually do a post when they came out of hibernation. At the time it was too cold for them to be out doors for long so it's only this last few days they've been out. I was originally going to wait until Topsy came home before posting. I may do another one in due course. She was not doing all that well before Easter so dad has to ring later today to check (not looking forward to the vet bill).
How adorable! I love English countryside. We used drive for miles and miles on Sundays just for fun!:)
asha I never really appreciated the countryside when I was growing up, I couldn't wait to get to the city now I can't wait for trips back to my roots.
I am so jealous of all the good weather!
Looks like a lovely day.
Best wishes to Topsy! Looks like a wonderful warm Spring day. I'm envious!
It all looks so lovely! I had my own encounter with baby goats yesterday as well!!! Hope your ill tortise is better soon!
what a fun day, and it looks like spring there!! i didn't know tortoises hibernated (hmmm, where have i been??).
and you finally DROVE the new car :-)
there is nothing like a good sunday roast.
poor topsy - send her my love.
Now i am thinking about goat curry...
lisa we are enjoying unseasonable warm weather here in the UK
pworms topsy is on the road to recovery thank you
sabrina coincidence we should both mention goats and hopefully topsy tortoise will be home soon ( that's if I can pay the vet bill).
elena jane oh yes I got to drive the car and it was a very nice smooth drive.
Samantha B ( my most severe voice) how could you goat curry indeed poor little things. Topsy is on the mend now thank goodness.
Oh those little baby goats are so cute. My in-laws have the miniature goats too - but then they grow up and are just stinky. (Well, at least the males are).
what fun pictures! I love that you have tortoises.
Your day sounds idyllic. The goats are so cute. I especially like the picture of the little white goat walking the plank.
If you eat meat then you eat meat, you have to accept that they are all cute at some stage in their poor lives.
Why should a goat be any less eaten than a pig or a cow or a fish or a rabbit or a chicken?
Don't tell me you are about to turn veggie and start wearing save the goat t-shirts?
karmyn I didn't get close to any males, in fact come to think of it I didn't actually see any so maybe they hire in a stud!
frannie I'm very fond of them even if the vets fees are getting a bit steep.
mjd they look really dainty and there was another mother with several babies but they wouldn't come out of the shed for the photo shoot.
sam me a veggie never, but I still don't like to think about eating pets. I actually don't think I've ever tried goat- well not to my knowledge anyway!
sam I meant to say have a nice time with alice q.
I grew up on a farm and hated it, now I love to visit the countryside and walk in the fields, or as we call them in Australia the paddock.
barbara now for us a paddock is specifically a enclosed area for horses. The countryside is particularly beautiful in spring and early summer with everything beginning to blossom.
sorry 'an'
Like Frannie I love that you have tortoises! What a great pet, of course minus the vet bills, right?
The goats are cute and I am jealous of your weather as well.
What's the deal? Why are you having such lovely weather and I am not? And others too, I suppose, but really I am now on month 6 of snow so I deserve an awful lot of pity. I hope our terrible winter and spring lead to a gorgeous summer for our guests coming from your end of the world!
emma your 6th month I don't think I realised it was that long; I hope I don't find snow when I come to Canada at the end of June !!!
my4kids yes I'm dreading the bill particularly now I 'm on a fixed pension. We're so lucky with the weather it's the best Easter for years.
Sweet, sweet baby goat pictures. I didn't know tortoises ate dandelions...where do they live when they're in hibernation?
robin they go into individual boxes in our garage. the ideal way is to refridgerate them at a constant temperature (off hand I've forgotten what that is). I'm afraid we just hope for the best as we think it's a bit warm in the garage as we have a freezer in there giving off heat.
