Fun Monday # 12 Embarrassing or what!!

Amy w is our host for Easter Fun Monday and this is her challenge:

'The challenge this week was to find something in your closet you are keeping for some ungodly reason (the sweatshirt with all the holes, the jeans your kids used as a drawing table with markers, the shirt with the stain you only hope no one notices) take a picture of it and tell us why you are keeping it and how it got that way'.

Looking through my wardrobe for a suitable item made me realise that I sooo need to have a good de-clutter. A lot of my stuff isn't actually worn out it's just old fashioned or no longer fits me. I won't tell you the number of cotton tops (some very new) that have got a bleach stain (I decided these would not make an interesting photo). I'm very handy with the bleach (less so recently because of the environmental issues) at work they used to call me 'the toilet queen' and when I was inspecting premises to register for children's daycare I always used the bathroom and cloakrooms as an indicator on hygeine. So you can see why it became a standing joke. Why do I always digress when I'd planned to be very brief! We're going for lunch at my brother's house and I've less than an hour to get ready.

So I'm going to leave you having a giggle at this rather gross logo on a sweat shirt which was a Christmas present (probably in 80's remember padded shoulder, bat wing sleeves, platform shoes, and very wide bell-bottom trousers to name but a few styles that are best forgotten) from someone who shall remain nameless. As you may or may not know I love tennis but even I draw the line at this 'satin' logo. I did wear it a couple of times in the winter under a tacksuit so it wasn't seen.

I actually put this on for the photo and now it's going back in the wardrobe or it might go to the charity shop but I don't think it would sell.

You'll need to hop over to Amy w to see who else is showing off their tatty clothes. I may not get around to visiting until late tonight or tomorrow so see you all then.

I seem to remember that it cost the person who shall be nameless quite a bit of his hard earned and you were always difficult to buy for anyway. Love

Don't throw it away, I'll take it, it may come in handy for a dessing up tennis tournament!

He,he, Toilet Queen is not a title that I am striving to earn. Still, ensuring the cleanliness of the daycare bathrooms is essential.

Padded shoulders was an interesting fashion treand. Why would we want our shoulders to look bigger? Many of those shirts were translucent so the pads on the shouders were actually visible. Your photographed selection is not so bad. No wait, the shirt is rather ugly...I was trying to be nice.

It says Wimbeldon. Was it official merchandise?

So why have you kept it?
Because you sensed that someday Beccy would ask for it?
What a good mom.

Cookiecrumb Mum is a hoarder which is why her house is about four times the size of mine with cellar, garage and attic packed to the rafters full of stuff. Of course she then threw away the Mary Quant mini skirt about 6 months before Sam and I were interested in wearing it!

anon I remember I has two of them.

beccy You can have it next time you visit remind me.

erik it makes anything look good

amy w I never stick to the point do I- easily distracted that's me.

asha its not so much the design as the padded satin that makes it look so tacky.

mjd no need to be nice just say it like it is

frannie it looks worse in reality

anvilcloud no not official Wimbeldon although it could easily be looking at some of the tack they have put out.

CC exactly that; and I can now off load it and not feel guilty as it was a present!

this was so awful, I had to come back and see it again-- I wanted to make sure it wasn't something I dreamed.

That's pretty bad, but I was never one for decorated sweatshirts.

You always need a sweatshirt that you can wear when everything else is dirty and it will just be under a tracksuit anyway. ..

I'll trade you that shirt for the teddy bear vest.

I don't love the bat-wing sleeves - but I sort of like the logo - It is like Edward Gorey meets the flapper set!

You should have a contest and use it for a prize (I'd enter!)

I have to agree - pretty bad sweatshirt. Maybe someone on e-bay wants it? hee hee.

frannie- no you didn't dream it but some people like it.

liza maybe logos for the kids is oK but I was well into 30's or even 40's when I had it.

sabrina yes but this would still come bottom of the pile!!

stephanie I think I'll pass on that thank you

purpleworms its the gross satin that makes it so awful, looks worse in real life.

karmyn I never thought of ebay but it looks like beccy is going to give it a home for fancy dress parties at her tennis club (that's what happens to a lot of my clothes).

That one made me jump. No way should you get rid of it. That's worth some $$$.

All I can say is "its interesting".
the internet loses the sarcasm in my voice by the way...

I like it.
what can I say???? I love sweatshirts.

But, just like you, I would have had it all polka-dotted with bleach.
I'm thinking about banning it in my house

At 10/4/07 07:19, Blogger Brooke - Little Miss Moi said...

Dear pamela. I don't mind it - it's cool art deco! Not sure about the batwing sleeves though! At least it woudl be comfy.

At 10/4/07 07:21, Blogger Brooke - Little Miss Moi said...

dear chrisb. Don't ask me why I responded to Pamela's comment and not your post! Because I've just woken up and I shouldn't blog when I've just woken up.

So, I agree with Pamela, it's not too bad. Are you going to take beccy up on her plea not to throw it out? I think a 'dress up tennis competition' would be a sight to behold!

swampwitch there were two the other was a blue mmmmm I wonder if I still have that one as well !!

willowtree beauty is in the eye of the beholder; it really is a bit garish and I was a serious tennis player at the time I was given it so the flapper image didn't quite fit!

my4kids sacastic -yoou I don't believe it !!

pamela every time I ruin a top I curse myself what I can't work out is why, however careful I am pouring bleach, I still get splashes and as a lot of my tops are dark colours I don't notice until it dries.

little miss moi beccy thinks I should offer it as a prize !! but as its been worn I expect it will pass to her.

mum - that is so gross - I can;t believe all the things you made me throw away when all the time you had that monstrosity stashed in the back of your warderobe

At 11/4/07 08:36, Blogger ChrisB said...

sam that's why I've only ever worn it a couple of times and you know it's not something I would buy.

At 11/4/07 16:42, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm sure it's worth money, but those colors.WOW! Very bright! It would make a good Halloween costume! Does it glow in the dark??

At 11/4/07 17:05, Blogger ChrisB said...

christine it looks as thought it ought to glow in the dark but that would make it even more gross uugh!!
