What is happening to the world.

I have just published a frivolous post but I felt I wanted to say how sad I felt when I heard the tragic news of the pointless deaths of all the students and teachers in Virgina Tech University. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that the families of those who lost their lives and everyone affected are in the thoughts and prayers of the world at this sad time.

I agree, Chris. It's a terrible thing.

I can't imagine the poor parents, my heart breaks for them.

Lisa and Asha I have just been listening to some more news. He seems to have been a very sad and disturbed young man who didn't get the help he needed help. Tell me is it really as easy to get a gun in the states as is being reported.

Chris,
Sadly,I don't know what you've heard, but it is scary easy. I believe he bought his handguns legally, but I think it's fairly easy to get them illegally, too.
Some people have taken offense to Major's statement about the U.S.'gun culture,' but it's true. With gun nuts like the N.R.A, plus our 'intelligent' president wrapped in the Second Amendment, it's hard to pass even the most mild gun laws.
Apparently it's a God-given right as an American to be a gun-toting idiot.
Um, sorry, Chris, I have a little bit of an opinion on this! :(

Lisa I think this incident has made a lot of the public here even more concerned about the gun culture we have here. It's apparently very easy to get guns illegally (we have different laws as I'm sure you're aware) and we've had a recent spate of street shootings (gangs) but nothing on this scale. I would never want the laws here relaxed.

I get so annoyed when people start talking about what caused it and they cite the lack of security at the university without even mentioning the guns.

There are people in the US who refuse to accept that the actual guns might be any part of the problem.

Ecents have transpired showing the gunman spent the 2 hours between the first and second spates of shootings mailing a box of videos of himself to one of the TV stations who have gone ahead and aired them proving their greed for ratings and money far outweighs any signs that they actyually care about the poor victims.

It quite disgusting, They have played into the killer's hads and he has gotten exactly what he wanted twice over.

pah.

i completely agree with lisa and sam about the sad state of opinion on gun control in the U.S.! i don't know what it will take for some people to finally realize that guns kill people!

sam and alisonwonderland I usually hesitate to comment on another country's politics but I do tend to agree with these sentiments. The press/TV in this country are just the same. They seem to go beyond the bounds of decency.

I agree with Sam, and have purposly not watched any of the killer's tapes, etc.
The sad fact is that he will get the fame he obviously wanted from this, and the poor victims will be remembered only by friends and family.
It just makes me feel sick.
