On a mission!
Last weekend we had to get some of the old insulation out of the loft, as the final preparation before the new insulation was fitted. We didn't want to carry all the mess down through the house for obvious reasons. It had already taken considerable effort to remove everything that was stored up there, including taking up the boarding. So Embee decided this was the way to do it!
I stood at the bottom and untied the sacks!
It worked well and in no time we had a couple of car loads that have now gone to the rubbish tip!
The new insulation was laid on Wednesday and hopefully this will help prevent heating loss come next winter.
This little project has actually motivated me and I am now in the mood for clearing out. So, yesterday I got rid of the all the remaining books, files of paper and training material from when I worked. I have three huge bags of paper for recycling and a few more things for the tip. Now what can I start on next!!

My house. That's what you can start on next! ;)
That was brilliant! You sure don't want to be dragging old insulation through the house (I hate insulation! Not having it, but working with it).
Actually, you shouldn't have to wait until next winter to reap the benefits, it should also be a bit cooler this summer.
Embee hide! If not you might be Spring cleaned!
Ah, very wise! You'd be surprised at how well keeping good insulation in the attic will keep your house warm.
My house...garden...where to start?
Haha!! Embee looks like Ratatouille!
Good that you are insulating, saves lot of heating and cooling bill. We are thinking of getting a new kitchen too, will see!:)
That's a big job, but you'll be cozier next winter.
You can come clean my house next. Plus, I also need new insulation in my attic.
untied sacks? why weren't you tying them up?
I need to get motivated, but don't know where to put it all or what to do with it. LOL! Maybe you could come and help e get it done. LOL!
Hey! He had a good idea!
My neighbors just did that last week! (except they hired someone to do it ALL for them). I watched, fascinated.
Hey - if you need something to do, I was going to suggest my house, but my in-laws need help instead. They are planning on moving next Feb (having a smaller home remodeled nearer to my BIL). Anyway - they have over 45 years of crap to go through. (did I mention they are both "collectors" of junk?)
Impressive I really need to do this. We have so much stuff that we don;t need/look at. It's so daunting though!
Our junk list reduced dramatically after Mum died, as Dad emptied the loft. Three vacuum cleaners, six kettles,a couple of toasters, and TEN suitcases! And more..........
I think the first photo looks like embee is trying to escape from the house, but someone inside is holding on to his legs to keep him inside.
LOL From everyone's comments I think I could set up a new business :)
Sam~ I meant untie each bag from the rope!
Karmyn I think we would get on well with your in-laws~ we still have masses to clear from our cellars~ one persons crap is another person's treasure!!
john I hate to tell you I can match that! LOL
Oh, throwing things off the roof is so much fun! That's a nice project to kick off springtime with. I'm having some construction done in my basement at the end of June (having to do with seepage/drainage) so I need to clear out the entire basement by then (and pull up some flooring). Ugh, what a terrible job. I wish I could throw all the stuff off the roof. :)
Now I see that Embee wasn't actually throwing it off the roof. Oh well. That would have been more fun. :D
He's way too brave! What a good sport.
Cranky would never do that, but right now he's in the kitchen putting together a faux Nicoise salad for lunch. So I'm happy.
Jen he could have thrown them down but its so high if anything got stuck on the roof we would have a problem also if the bags split open~ guess who would have been chasing up the content!
CC~ I might say you are the lucky one embee is never in the kitchen preparing a meal for me. As he reads this I had better add he will go and buy a take away~ however, that's not quite the same a home cooked meal!!
Funny pic of Embee!I guess it´s spring cleaned...Great work!
Good job.
The weather seems to be righter which is good and I have a skip outside to fill this weekend myself.
Hi Chris,
Seems like whoever put the new insulation in would have had to remove the old, but that was a neat idea on how to remove it since you did it yourself. Have a good weekend.
I love your header photo btw.
I bet that I could find something for you to do at my house!
LOve the new look ! It's been awhile since I've made it over here.
Come on over. I don't need any insulation, so we can just visit.
The last time I dealt with insulation (cleaning up in Texas after a tornado) I itched and stung for 3 days...at the time, I didn't know there was any insulation in what I was cleaning.
Thanks for mailing the card.
Yes! Ditto! Start over here! *waves and points at clutter*
.
I'm in the mood for a good clean out today... I think... well I'll try... can't promise anything. :o)
He looks way up there! Glad he's safe. :)
