What are we growing?
We don't have the sort of garden that allows us to grow very much in the way of vegetables. However we do try with a few herbs and other things, some in borders, troughs and pots and we thought we would try these in tubs....... About ten days ago I noticed some shoots breaking through the soil.....
three days later they looked like this.......today they look like this.....but what are growing~ no prizes for getting it right!??
UPDATE:
OK the answer is John was the first to come up with the right answer. I will let you know if we are successful but it won't be for a while yet .

I dunno, but that's impressive growth.
Dear chrisb. Oh dear, I have no idea... Basil?
I must need new glasses. When I saw the first photo I thought it was a chocolate cake with icing flowers.
Looks like purple Basil Chris, I am not sure. I have green Basil. That is growing luxuriously. If it is Basil, great for pasta and Pizza or even pesto!:)
Enjoy your weekend.
I was thinking basil! Although the leaves look a little different, I know you can get them in purple! Very sweet either way!
it has the colour of thai basil but the leaves don't look pointy enough. Chocolate mint also has that purple tinge, but the leaves are not crinkly enough for mint.
Don't have a clue!
Leaves!
Basil and I did think that before I read the comments :)
We're growing tomatoes but they are struggling in the epic temperatures!
Poison ivy?
No, wait, that's in MY garden.
I THINK YOU ALL NEED A CLUE...it's not a herb.
THEY COME IN MANY VARIETIES and we are hoping for an early crop from these plants!!
Spuds!
begonias
nicotiana
@Babara - laughs, I thought it was a muffin with hundreds and thousands on it!
.
Hi Chris, it's looking really good! No idea what it is but I love the colouring!
looks like basil to me.
Tell Beccy I am very impressed with her marathon.
Sam did you not see the clue.... not flowers..... definitely edible!
It is pretty but ya got me!!
not a flower, not a herb, but edible, what you can grow chocolate in tubs?!
I don't know about you, but I'm growing older And fatter.
looks like BASIL to me:).
I don't know what it is, but it sure grows fast!!!
I thought it was basil too, but if it is not a herb is it potatoes? I'm stumped.
Sweet Potato (Kumera)
Or Spinach, the mountain variety!
John, Beckie you are correct it's spuds/potatoes/tatties what every you prefer to call them!
karisma they are not the sweet potato variety!
I had no idea and never would have guessed potato. Hmmm, now I know. One of my favorite foods!
prettiest potato I've ever met. I can smell it in the back of my mind somewhere. I remember weeding them as a kid - and the wet leaves would make my hands and arms itch - and leave little red welts for a few minutes.
