Fun Monday # 49
Ann is our hostess this week and she has given us an interesting assignment she says....
"I want to hear about a web site and not just about any old web site. I want to hear about a web site that's changed your life. A web site that you can't live without. A web site whose inventor you'd like to see win a McArthur Genius Grant.
Maybe you want to sing the praises of a dating web site for helping you meet your spouse. Maybe the only thing getting you through the dark days of winter is an Internet comic. No story is too big, no story is too small - I want to hear it all on Monday".
When I read this I was immediately worried because I knew this would turn out to be a very lame post for me. The sites that I can't live without are the blogs that I avidly read every day. I comment on some, lurk on many and feel disappointed when you have nothing to say. I eat breakfast with you, I join you for coffee, afternoon tea (well more coffee actually) and a nightcap! Oh and before you wonder I do manage to squeeze a few other things in during the day. Since I started blogging in September 2006 quite a lot of the original bloggers I followed have decided to take a break or give up, and some have even come back or post less often! I've said many times that I started blogging to stay in touch with my daughters Sam and Beccy who most of you will know anyway, and even they no longer write everyday. Maybe they don't want me to know what they are getting up to!!
I tend to use the internet for gathering information~ how else could I give Embee the help he needs with his crossword if I didn't sit and 'google it'~ in fact anything I want to know Google is my first port of call so this has to be one very important web site in our family.
Take today for instance, it helped with the crossword, helped me convert pounds to euro (so that Dillon knows how much he owes for the phone bill during the week he was here [not telling you the amount!]~and before you say 'what a mean grandmother I am' you need to have read Beccy's last post. Unfortunately lessons in life are hard and best learned young {in my entire life I have never spent this much on phone calls in a week not even when I was using dial up for the internet}!! Today I've also used google to check out holidays, flight prices on both Ryanair and Aer Lingus and looked at some joke sites for a future post.
Now some of you will have gathered from my last Fun Monday post that although I no longer have a dog, I am nevertheless very fond of them and I'll leave you with a look at this site which I often browse.
What I am hoping is that after today I will find some new places to visit!!~ see you later.

Another "typical" post Chris, I think most of us spend whatever portion of the day we allocate to the computer in pretty much the same way.
Maybe I do nothing worth blogging about!
Google rocks! Another of my favourite sites is Wikipedia...you get lots of crossword answers on there too!!
Yes, one of my favourite websites is Google too.And I love my blogroll and of course a lot of onlineshops where I can see fabrics ;O)!
Oh yes....I do the same, blogs and Google. Google happens to be a lifeline in so many cases.
Happy Fun Monday.
beccy that is so not true of you but could be applied to me!
aoj&tl yes I use Wikipedia a lot but you do have to be careful because sometimes the info is doctored!
steffi you certainly find lots of beautiful fabrics!
Hootin'anni I knew I would not be alone in my choice!
I responded to Kaytabug's post the same way: When a site has become so important to become a verb, it is vital! I must run and google now, ta ta!
The daily puppy??? Pfffftttthahaha!! I cannot believe it!! It's a joke, right??!
Got nothing worth blogging about today!
Oh google how did we live without it!
I hear you on Google. I didn't even think about it, but I couldn't make it through a day without it. You did a great post! :)
google! of course. brilliant.
so simple. so true. so easily forgotten in our rush for "significant" websites.
i love google! i always tell my mom (61 last week) to GOOGLE IT! and she goes, oh yeah, never thought of that.. but now she DOES think to 'google it' and now and again she comes up with something... its as natural to me as breathing.. but its information to me, so i used another site for my post which is all about fun! maybe you need a neopet!
I love google and WIKI too. I spend lot of time looking for infos, so do my kids!:))
Happy Monday Chris. I "detoxing" from blog addiction right now!:D
Google is my home page so I am with you there! That evil link you posted? Yep, I'll be there for hours later...thanks!
Let's meet up for tea tomorrow okay!
I think you had a great post, and I know I look forward to you everyday.
I don't think it's being mean (although some may say I'm a mean mom for making Megan pay for a WebKinz this weekend, hey, it was Christmas three weeks ago!)
Lisa
Chris, JINX! I posted "Google" as my first choice, too (great minds...?) :).
Your comments are ALWAYS among my most encouraging; I'm thankful that you continue to read (and let me know you're reading) when my blog visiting days have been clipped.
Today, though? I'm trying to catch up a bit...we'll see how that works out :).
Brilliant! I wouldn't survive without blogs and google! But now, I have to check out that daily puppy - especially on those 'bad' days - b/c THAT will give me an immediate lift - thanks!
you are right ! Blogging changes life. I wonder what I did before I started blogging ! and all this because I wanted to know more about Egyptian cat godesses !
I find reading blogs to be better then any book I could read, which probably explains why my book readng time has gone way down. And google? I swear I use it daily!
I think google is now on everyone's list of tools they can't live without. Great post!
Oh I Google everything!! This wasn't a lame post at all! Thanks for sharing!!
blogs, blogs and more blogs. i swear, i could spend all day doing that. too bad work gets in the way of my reading!
and google (especially dr. google...lol) is my very best friend!
Dang it. I forgot about Google when I was writing my post. How did I forget Google when I use it several times per day?
I love the Daily Puppy! I have a little widget in my personal google home page so I can see the Daily Puppy each day, automatically.
I spend way too much time with blogs! They are definitely the sites I couldn't live without. I'm not visiting or commenting as often as I would like, but I figure I have to spend some time with the family!
Your site is the first I visit!
Ha! My son visits daily puppy, too, and then emails his requests to me for new pets - he's 11. I also put Google as my #1.
Thanks for introducing me to the Daily Puppy! Google rocks but I'm digging the Daily Pup!
I'm bummed. Your 'long' comment didn't show. Oh well, we can 'chalk it up to modern technology'.
Have a good evening Chris
ChrisB--how could you sneak that puppy a day web site in on us. Now I'll have to look every day since there's not going to be a puppy in this house for awhile.
I'm appreciating Google more and more to snaz up my blog.
family sites are the best.
My daughter will love the puppies when I show her!
ha--I think you are getting addicted! Isn't hard not to be on the computer!! I love to have it with tea or coffee also. Plus there are so many interesting people out there, eh? Today I was so busy that I didn't get to have my usual computer visits!! Enjoyed your post----and yes the phone bill should be made by the one making those calls--you are so right about lessons that need learning. Blessings on your day! or whatever it is there.
I just hope they don't track my googles (like my site tracks the googles that hit me)
....
they'd think I was crazy.
What a cute website Chris!! You are not a mean grandmother..you are teaching him responsibility!! I am jealous of you having football on all the time...but then again I would probably get nothing done if I lived near you!!
I think we began blogging for the same reasons. Well, I wasn't trying to keep in touch with your daughters ;), I was trying to keep in touch with my mom. :)
The daily puppy, huh? I'll go check it. :)
I think I do so well and here I am at 39th for posting - Curses! You do have a nice link for the pups. The Correctional Facilities in Colorado have an adoption program. The offenders train the dogs for 30 days 24/7 and for about $400, you can have the companion of a lifetime. Go to www.doc.state.co.us and look for the K9 program. Thanks for the post.
i just don't know how anyone can try blogging and not get hooked...we are all with ya..

Well a bunch of us thought quite a lot about what you posted today! I have to go visit me some dailypuppy now!
Google is a good search engine for sure. And pretty soon the company will be the next Microsoft.
I spend waaaaay too much time on this computer checking all my blog friends. I am thinking of slowing down a bit as I have something starting in the evenings that will take up my time. Keep on Bloggin'
You know I originally looked at your post last night but clicked on the daily puppy link and was lost for hours! Didn't get back to blogs until this evening.....so cute although I think my pups are cuter then all of them but still.
I love my blog as well though, and yours and all the others on my blog roll!
Hi Chris - I'm catching up on my blog reading. Sounds like you had a busy Christmas and New Year. I hope Granny has recovered from her accident. Hugs to her from Oz.
I like short posts. What's wrong with short posts? Why be wordy if you don't have to (or don't want to)?
I guess I do Google occasionally, but not that often. Our kids like to look up dog websites and see what kinds there are out there.
THANK YOU ALL FOR THE COMMENTS.
I DON'T KNOW ABOUT ANYONE ELSE BUT I HAVE ENJOYED LOOKING AT ALL THE LINKS EVEN THOUGH IT'S TAKEN ME 2 DAYS.I MAY EVEN HAVE MISSED A COUPLE THAT WEREN'T POSTED WHEN I CHECKED. MY BLOGLINES HAVE INCREASED AS A RESULT!!!
See you next week if not before!
You have already visited my FM so you know we were thinking along the same lines! The Puppy site is beyond adorable!! BTW,I think you and Beccy are teaching Dillon a great lesson.
That daily puppy page is great! Who can resist cute puppy faces every day?
And I have no doubt you will find websites to "waste" your time on with this Fun Monday...I've added a bunch of bookmarks in my travels! ;-)
If i had managed to do fun money this week my answer would of been the same :)
I use google loads too. And the pups? So cute. :D
