Quick and tasty
About ten days ago I saw this over at I'm Mad and I Eat. Anyone who follows Cookiecrumb will know that she and Cranky are very good at concoting something from nothing. So the other evening when I was desperately looking for a quick meal with little preparation (because I'd spent too much time blogging and had not left enough time to cook the planned meal) I remembered her post 'Visible Pantry Line' and decided to do my own variation as I had some bacon and mushrooms to use up and I always have onions and walnuts. I used tagliatelle as that's what I happened to have and I decided to omit the cheese (I can't remember now if embee added any). It made a very tasty, if calorific, meal and is very easy to adapt.
I started frying the onions then bacon, mushrooms and finally when almost cooked added the walnuts. Voila the end result.... I hear you saying 'that's not a very healthy meal' and I would agree but occasionally a little bit of what you fancy does you good!!!!!! and you can serve it with a healthy salad.
Thank you Cookiecrumb you are an inspiration for a lot of my meals.

Dear chrisb. I made a similar dish, but with lashings of pesto. MMMmmm.
Hi Chris ~~ Thanks for that quick easy recipe that I copied and will
try this one.Take care, Merle.
Many thanks to Embee for the Birthday Greetings. That was nice of him and I have had a great day. Thanks also for the quote from the van. I knew that one as Love many, Trust a few, but always paddle your own canoe (instead
of love a lot) Thanks again,Regards,
Merle.
willowtree you'll have to get cooking!!
enidd I'll put it on the menu if you ever come this way!
little miss moi that sounds a good variation, I'll remember that.
merle this recipe is so simple glad you're going to give it a try.
Yummy! Onion and walnuts with Bacon sounds great. It doesn't hurt to eat an occasional good fatty meal at all!Does some good to the soul:))
asha - the trouble is I could get used to it if I allowed myself which I don't, but it's sometimes hard to resist.
anything with bacon in it is YUMMY!
Mmmm, that looks delicious.
I'll be craving bacon today!
Mmmm looks yummy but I love bacon so that probably has something to do with it.
Hmmmm mother, I believe I told you about mine yummy dinner, inspired by CC last week! We had it again this week and it was still divine!
frannie, kila, my4kids I totally agree with you all about bacon, it adds a good flavour to lots of meals. Even salads beccy does a nice chopped boiled egg/bacon salad.
beccy you did, but as soon as I read CC's post I decided I was going to make it when the opportunity arose. See above I have also been praising the salad you used to make.
Delicious! Lovely photo too Chris!
My FULL FRY-UP was lovely tonight!
I know it's fried, but the ingredients look pretty healthy to me?
Oh my goodness!
I had no idea!
I'm so pleased I inspired you. I really liked the dish when Cranky and I invented it. And it's so amenable to re-invention.
Basically, I'd say it's a healthy dish. Not too fried (just the onions, etc., which are technically sauteed). Lots of antioxidant-rich ingredients. Whole grains. Yay!
Thanks, Chris.
sally What I really want is a 'lightbox' (not sure if that's what they're called) so that I can really take good food photos
johng sounds good; better not let embee read this he might start getting ideas he loves a full fry up.
anvilcloud weeell it's not too bad I supose as although fried there was not much fat used.
CC the bit of fat I used for the onions was olive oil and the bacon did the rest. I know I've said it before but I'm not creative in the kitchen- but then I don't need to be when I can pinch such good ideas!!!
come cook for me. Thanks.
pamela the trouble is not everything I cook is so successful!!
It looks delicious Chris. It's my sort of meal. A little of this and that all thrown in together.
barbara all you really good cooks are so much better at throwing things together than I am so I get by on everyone else's ideas!
