Winter Solstice
Picture from Wiltshire news
Today was the Winter Solstice, which marks the first day of winter, and is the shortest day of the year. Many druids, as well as tourists, went to Stonehenge to celebrate as the sun rose.
I don't know about you but, personally, I'm always pleased when we have passed the shortest day as I long for the time when the evenings become a little lighter.

I am with you 100%! I am so happy when we get past the darkest day as I know from that day forward I get a lil more sunshine each day!!
Crispy, we almost drove to Stonehenge yesterday, we only live about 50 minutes away with my driving.... I so now wish we had LOL
x
I think I am going to go to a little solstice party at June Taylor's later. Too bad you won't be with me - who's going to eat all her mince pies and christmas cake?
Chris I agree! I long for the loighter nights. I think that early darkness, mixed with days that don't seem too light either and the worst weather in terms of frost, rain and dullness have made this a pretty miserable winter. Roll on the lighteer nights, the crisp weather and the first signs of spring! :o)
Hi Chris,
I had forgotten about today being the first day of winter. It is very cold here.
The days are getting longer from here on out. I always take a little joy in that, even if I hate winter.
(Wait. You are called Crispy? How cute.)
I once worked at a New Age-type book publisher. There was a lot of nudity to mark the winter solstice. Not by me, of course--I don't strip until at least June.
We had summer solstice here! Nice long day! I would love to visit Stonehenge one day.
Marmie You could have done a round trip and had a pit stop here :)
Sam I'm jealous bet the food was wonderful. BTW the jam was lovely I opened one pot when Beccy was here the other week.
CC that's Marmie's name for me and I do like it.
Ari- nudity ;o) it's a bit cold for that here!
karisma we haven't been to the stones for years- not sure you can wander that freely anymore but it's well worth a visit. One for the bucket list!
Mum - we had an accident on the way there - someone hit our wing mirror off - so we ended up not going :(
It was totally not our fault. We were in a left turn lane, they were in a left turn ONLY lane, but they thought it would be a good idea o go straight on instead. Tourists, pah.
Sam I'm glad you aren't hurt but sorry you missed the party. Hope they weren't British tourists and hope they paid for the damage-your new car as well!!
we have to go through a whole long sucky insurance process - I have already spent about 2 hours on the phone
That looks like quite a crowd. Hopefully, no sweet young things were sacrificed.
Did you skim past all my typos? ;o) thank you. I bet you thought I was from Cornwall with my loighter nights (noights) :o)
daffy I had a giggle at the typos (I do similar all the time) LOL
AC some of the photos I saw might be considered mutton rather than lamb if you get my drift!
Sam hope you've managed to sort the insurance by now!
That's so interesting. Feels like winter has been here for ages already. :)
Lisa I know what you mean by Christmas I feel winter is almost half over!
how many days till spring now?? ;)
