Spidercatcher!
and I don't mean one of these!!!!!! Let me explain!
A couple of night ago I was creeping about at bedtime so as not to wake those in the house who go to bed early! I had a very dim light on and I had just started to clean my teeth when a movement caught my eye. I saw this huge spider at the side of the basin and it really did give me a fright, and I'm not exaggerating when I say it was big.
I knew I was going to have to deal with it, there was no way I could go to sleep knowing this monster was in the room. So, should I just whack it and kill it or do the humane thing and move it outside! While I was deciding I did have the presence of mind to rush downstairs and get my camera ( I'm sure you will agree a good blogger never misses an opportunity)!
Below is the hasty photo I took and although it's not really in focus you can see the size. I decided to be kind and not to kill it, see I'm nice really! Somehow I managed to trap it in a soap dish, cover it with a tissue and then drop it out of the window to give it a fighting chance~more kindness! What would you have done?!?!
P.S. The Lily you helped me identify in this post is now in full bloom~ so yesterday I posted another picture of it over on my photo blog.

Oh God Chris. You are a nice person. I would have screamed and woken the house and demanded himself kill it! I HATE arachnids. They must be killed lest they breed. *SHUDDER*
I would have done the same (or maybe got Joules to do the same)!
Yep I'd have done the same and put it out side.
We catch the spiders in our house and either feed them to our Chamelion Brenda or our Scorpion Geoff or even our Bearded lizard..... and if they are really lucky and still alive but just stunned, our Chicken LOVES em lol....
x
At least it wasn't like this: http://www.grannymar.com/blog/2006/09/22/my-sleeping-partner/
I agree with Beccy too...
I hate spiders!

I'm with beccy.
I'm with Beccy too, although I would have screamed - a lot.
deborah I did think about doing that but I would not have been popular Lol you should have seen me stifle a squeal when I dropped it~ luckily it froze, if it had scampered under the bed I don't know what I would have done!
marmitetoasty~ rather you than me~ not sure I could do that~ but then I'm unlikely to ever have reptiles as pets~ wait a minute I have tortoises but luckily they are vegetarians!!!
grannymar that was what I was worried about!
I just peed my pants after looking at that picture. You are a far braver woman than I.
OH, that gives me memories of our dear, dead Charlotte. Remember all those posts I did on her last summer? I even went to the pet store and bought crickets to feed her. Unfortunately, she succumbed to the Colorado winter. Does that answer your question?
screamed and had a big argument over my husband as to who would kill it. we're both deathly afraid of spiders. i dont know, but usually i think my husband should do it, as he has more square footage and is less likely to be hurt by one than me. big shoes to squish it, etc... i know most of them dont hurt, but they move so WEIRD! ugh!
I would have turned the taps on, washed it down the drain then put the plug in, then I would have gone to bed and had nightmares!
Not as big as my Erica!
I would have sucked it up in my vaccuum so I wouldn't have to touch it to kill it or take it outside.
You are so nice. In my world - indoor spiders are fair game. Squish 'em while screaming.
The ones outside I leave alone.
normally, i pick them up with Kleenex and squish them and drop them in the toilet.
but that one is so big i might have had to bring out the baseball bat.
I would of screamed, then collected myself and put it in the garden.
Great photo's!
Good lord that's one big spider!
First I would have freaked out, and quite possibly pee'd my pants.
Then I would have woken up my husband to get it, with the hopes that he'd be nice and just get it outside....
Now I've got the squirmies....
swampy I'd forgotten about those posts until you reminded me~ senility is so sad!
jill I have has a spider bite and it was not pleasant.
john are you boasting again!!
SS I have been known to use the vac but not late at night!
katy oh yes have done that plug thing but they always seem to come back even if it's the next day!
laurie I've done that as well~ the toilet I mean not the baseball bat!
I can see from some comments I might have been doing some additional laundry if nikki and SJ had been here!
eeeeeeewwwwwww ewwwwwww i hate spiders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man you are sweet!! no spiders allowed here none!!!!!!! when we first bought this place it was a nightmare!! no one had lived in it for years spiders galore thnk goodness for spider bombs!! And I do not feel bad!!!!! I have woke grizzly up with a scream when encountering on in the shower!! luckly that has been awhile!!
Mum - it's not a matter of kindness. Spiders should just never be killed, full stop. Ants, mosquitos and wasps, however, are completely fair game.
I would have squished it and flushed it down the toilet for good measure!
Brave woman!
Oh, and thanks for laughing at my Friday Funny! I'm a Royalist AND a practising Catholic, but just couldn't resist to post it! (
My SIL sent it to all the(Irish) family bar me..... ;)
Honestly I would have killed it. Please don't think less of me.
I'll try really hard next time I see a HUGE spider to take spare it's life and take it outside.
You are far braver and kinder than I!

When I see spiders I freeze. I can barely breathe. So, (1,) I may have passed out because I was the only one up. (2,) I would have screamed it to death!!!!!!!
I would have screamed.
and then settled down for the kill.
I occasionally use my spider catcher.
LOL....the camera thing is so funny! I definitely would have grabbed the camera for the blog pic!!! Yikes, that thing is HUGE!!! My husband actually purchased one of those spider vacuum type things for me so I can suck them up and then put them back outside!
I would have put it down the drain or flushed it with the hopes that it actually drown. I don't like to squish big spiders because they are gross. GROSS!!!
William just puts them outside and since he does not appreciate my fear of spiders he wouldn;t appreciate me waking him up in the middle of the night to get rid of it.
ACK! that's the same kinda spider I found in my sitting room a few months ago.
My shameful confession: I'm afraid I had to smash it. It was moving too fast for me to catch it - and it was too big- and it was moving toward me.
But usually I leave them alone. I figure I'd rather have a few small spiders in my house than other bugs.
TLG I have to keep telling myself they do eat other insects so they are good~ I just wish they didn't give me the heebie-jeebies!!
Good grief, you know some very kind people, Chris.
I am a smasher. I am not even a screamer. I just get a tissue and smash the little suckers.
Sorry.
I would have killed it... and made sure it suffered! :)
just kidding... kind of.
Your too nice. I would have yelled for Kelly to kill it! I don't like spiders.....
I would have woke the whole house up with my screams. :) And made my son remove it after he helped me photograph it. :)
I would have made my husband get outta bed to kill it. I HATE bugs!!
