Pay it Forward

How dumb am I that I didn't notice that I was Nikki's third commenter on this post. So never one to refuse a free gift (you never know I might get something rather special given Nikki's talent) I'm playing along.
This exchange is based on a movie with Helen Hunt in it called 'Pay It Forward'. The movie was based on a book written by Catherine Ryan Hyde. I have not read the book or seen the movie (which I now intend to do) but it's a simple idea 'when someone does you a favour you don't pay it back you pay it forward' and this is what the PIF Exchange is all about. I suppose simply put the idea is about spreading goodness through deeds and making the world a better place.

I'll send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment on my blog requesting to join this 'Pay it Forward' exchange! The only thing you have to do in return is "pay it forward" by making the same promise on your blog". I'm now puzzling what to send because I don't have a particular creative talent. This will probably be a time when I get no comments because no one is interested. No I must be optomistic not pessimistic. My glass is half full!!!! I do hope there are three of you willing play along :) :)

I'll need you to email me your address when you comment so that I know where to send the gift. Just so you know it may take me a couple of weeks or so before I mail anything out.

I'm not signing up, I'm just leaving a comment in case no-one else does. But I'm sure someone will join in!

WT, but you L I K E to send stuff, right? You had a picture of a pile of sursees just recently, didn't you??

Anyway, Chris, I saw it at Nikki's, I saw it here, and although I never saw the movie, I know its premise and think it lovely. It's how people should live their lives--in consideration for others :).

You'll get comments...especially when someone is the fourth in line and juuussssssttttt missed it!

I like how you posted about this. I too am preparing a Pay It Forward post so I didn't want to comment too early. Had to come back this evening and make sure you had your three - you worried me thinking that I owuld be able to get three people. :) Yea, now if I can just find a moment to post about it.

Well it seems no one is keen to 'pay it forward' as it is not the first 3 comments it's the first three to indicate they want to carry this on and send me a mailing address!!

Did you get your three people yet? Your "prize" will go in the mail on Monday if I can find some more bubble mailers!

I saw the movie and read the book and liked both of them. We show the movie to our students at school. My mother always said this when she would do a good deed or favor for people that felt that they could not repay her. She told them that someday they could do something nice for another person and that would be her repayment. I think that Thoreau said something to this effect as did some other great philosophers. Anyway, nice idea Chris.

So, what you're telling me is my comment didn't count? How 'bout I spell it out for you: I'd like to play, but won't be posting my own "pay it forward" until later...

Off to look for your email address :).

Robin I'm a bit stupid I was expecting people to actually say they would join in sort of like WT opted out. I guess I didn't want anyone to feel pressurised now I feel even more stupid (senior moment that's my excuse!!)

I'm too late, as usual. I've never read the book but adored the movie. I'm always telling people to pay it forward. For instance, I let someone who only had one item get in front of me at the drug store. He was so grateful and I said, no need to thank me, just pay it forward. Do something nice for someone else to day.

Yeah, I'm one of those annoying people like that.
